I have an AT&T 8310 with a broken USB port.(It actually comes out of the device!!) I have no warranty and I don't want to spend much money to fix it.
I recently ordered a charging dock from Amazon.com(should get it by the 20th) so that I'll be able to charge the device, but is there any way I can upgrade my OS using Bluetooth/ or through a micro SD card reader???
I'm using a basic Nokia device at the moment (until I get my dock) and it really really makes me miss by Curve! I just can't afford a new device at the moment and I'm not eligible for an upgrade until 2011... Anyone have any ideas or suggestions for me? Or is anyone selling any blackberries with working parts that I could purchase to try to fix mine???
    Thanks for reading!!!!!

Is it possible to sync through the little gold tabs on the back???

There is no way to sync using the docking station, its made just to charge.

I'd recommend buying a cheap bluetooth receiver for your PC if you don't have one already, that way you can sync via bluetooth.

I got one for like $4 from dealextreme.com a while ago.

I'm not 100% sure. I don't think so since it kind of wipes the device while doing the update before updating the device.

You could probably do an OTA update but I'd be hesitant to update any further with a broken USB port. In the event anything goes wrong you can't do the nuked BB Recovery as outlined on this site.

Might be, under Options, Advanced Options, Wireless Update.

I'd wait to do it till your phone is 100% charged though if there is an update available and make sure you have your info backed up/synced to your PC first.

Also remember whatever OS you download to it now you're stuck with it till you either fix the USB port or a newer one is available via wireless update. Make sure you want it first. Do some research on what your carriers latest OS is for your Curve.

Sometimes you can find a shop that repairs PDA's & smartphones. I've heard of people getting the USB port replaced for around $50.

How long have you had it? Even without insurance, you may be able to get it replaced, if you're in your first year of contract & bought the phone from your carrier.
If it were me, I'd forget about upgrading the OS. If you can't afford to replace it, don't risk bricking it.
You can use that charging dock to charge, and use BT to back up to your PC, so all's well, as long as you don't kill the OS.

I took mine to an ATT store (call around first) even though I have a verizon phone. they replaced the usb port for $30 and had it done in an hour. guy said it is a known issue wiht curves and that the ones bb puts in there are (or at least were) junk. not a problem since. just call around and find places that do the repair. a cradle does not solve your problems bec of the sync issue and because you cannot use your car charger etc. the fix is a simple and cheap one.

    Really?

knoxville tenn blackberry repair - Google Search

It's an easy fast fix, and far cheaper than a new phone.
