The red led on my 8330 doesnt seem to want to go off and i do not have any new emails, text msgs, etc. What have i done wrong

Try a battery pull. Power on, pull battery out, wait 30 secs, replace battery.

No problem. Battery pulls solve a lot of BB weirdness.
