I had no idea the chirping came back (shows how often I check in on these forums). I'm running .169 and don't have that problem. In fact, I never had it on any OS (lucky?). So, aside from the possible chirping, anything new with this OS?

Jen, if you aren't having any problems with .169, that as well as .170 have nice, fast radios.
Probably won't see any difference upgrading to this one. ;)

That's all I needed to know. Now I can spend my time waiting for that official 5.0 OS. ;)
The browser is faster than the other os I have used. That is about all I have found so far. Is working great on verizon and still on chirp.
Has anyone noticed a "lag" while typing an e-mail since upgrading? Mine has been running fine since I did the upgrade until today...noticed while typing it would get hung up and I would have to wait for it to catch up, didn't notice that on .169.

Yeah I'd have to agree about memory leak issues on this release. Here's my file free for just over 18 hours.
37864456 Bytes Fresh boot 830p
31624492 Bytes 336a
28221007 Bytes 1038a
37733487 Bytes reboot 1040a
I haven't deleted emails or such before rebooting blackberry. So the 9.5mb increase isn't from removing emails, messages, or software...
OS 5 where are you?!?!
Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com
The Beta OS 5 has terrible memory leak and has compatibility problems with more than a few apps.

I always lost free memory on any OS with plenty of heavy usage throughout the day. I guess I just had came to consider it as the acceptable norm. Give your BB a workout, it'll use up some free memory.
I just delete all my SMS, not important e-mails and reboot every morning. I always PLENTY of free memory left to be smokin' fast still by the time I dock to charge at the end of the day.
I'm having an issue with the sounds (ringtones, ale ts, etc) with this build. i.e. I assing an ale t to BBM messages; when I get the 1st couple of messages the sound I picked is the one that i hear, after that when a message comes in a completly different alert sounds for the BBM, and after a while no alert sound! Neither the one that I assinged nor any other. I go to the profile to edit the sounds alerts and they are just as I left them. I try to change them and while I can select whichever sound I want I can't hear them while changing them, even the stock BB alerts. Everything goes back to normal if I do a baterry pull but it happens again.
Wiped the phone again, downloaded the update again from RIM's site, the same happens...
Anybody having this issue?

This OS was not happening for me so I went back to .131 which was a solid performer for me.
.175 definitely uses more battery than .131 does. I tested this over 3 days to be sure.
And, I would get freezups/stalls once in awhile.
I did notice the browser was a bit faster but not fast enough to warrant the drastic battery usage and freezups.
I have Sprint BB Curve 8330 OS verison 4.5.131 and recd notification from Sprint that a new os version 4.5.175 has been released on oct 15th.
I went to the Desktop Manager 5.0 version, and clicked on "update" and it came with the new os version 4.5.175 and during installation, it stopped with an error message "a fatal error has occurred while updating your devices' software. please try again." I tried 5 more times but still got the same thing.
when I got to the TASK IN PROGRESS WINDOW ' IT SAYS 2 OF 11:
1. connect to device (completed)
2. back up device data (completed)
3. back up 3rd party application (here is where it abruptly stops without even starting this task and get the error message)
What's wrong and what can I do to correct this? Im hoping someone out there can help me!! Please let me know asap as Im anxious to upgrade it!
Sounds like one of your 3rd party apps is the problem.
Try backing up your 3rd party apps with BBSAK. If successful, you can then remove your 3rd party apps from your BB, then do the OS upgrade.
Restore the 3rd party apps after the upgrade from the backup.

Just be on the lookout for similar freezing/lagging on .131. If your memory card got corrupted during the upgrade to .175, it will most likely give you problems on .131
Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com
thanks, I will keep that in mind.
When I went from my 8330m to my 8330 I stuck with the .131 that was on it and it ran great, no freezeups and the battery held up great.
I did not monitor for memory leakage but right off the bat I have 4MB> (38 vs 42)
Gee I don't know what a BBSAK is! Please explain.
What do you mean by 3rd party applications? How do I know which ones are 3rd party ? Example? should I give you a listing of my apps so perhaps I know which ones I delete and which ones I don't touch?
I also tried backing up before intalling the new verison, and the same thing happened, there was an error message when the "messages' was being backed up.
I also upgraded to BB messenger 5.0 directly from BB rim ... Is this considered a third party?
Im anxious to hear from you again.
All apps, and themes, that aren't from RIM are 3rd party.
Download BBSAK, a utility, that will allow you to backup your 3rd party apps. Google RIMgeeks BBSAK download.
You may have to clear your browser cache and delete some old messages, especially if you have a lot of old emails/SMS messages on your BB.
To clear your browser cache, from Browser, Menu, Options, Cache Operations, Clear History, etc.

Where do I download the BBSAK, on the BB Curve 8330, or on the PC using the Desktop Manager??
Thanks so much for your swift reply, its so kind !
Download it to your PC, then install on your PC.

Pls Help,
I had installed the Leaked OS 5 but had a terrible memory leak (started off with 19mb, down to 10mb in an hour, down to 5, 3 & even 2mb...) so i changed back to 4.5 & chose .175
Made a good backup + Apps, everything went normal till..... At the very end of installing the new OS a Message came up:
A fatal error has occurred while updating your device's software. pls try again.
So i right away ran app loader again and this time it finished the whole thing normal.
But now my Call Logs are just simple text, no colored icons to the left like the green, blue & brown< so i dont know a difference between incoming, outgoing or missed.
Also missing the 'View History' option in call logs
Looks like an Error in the 'Phone' App, but app loader doesn't detect anything to update and i have no idea what to do
Have you tried a battery pull? Phone on, pull battery, wait 30 seconds, reinstall battery.
Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com
yeah.... did it a few times,(actualy only with the alt+shift+del shortcut, is it ok ?)
another thing, it didnt recognise my SD Card, asked to format, so i copied everything to the computer, formated on the BB & put it back in.
But then it didn't stop to restart..... over & over.... So i took out the Card & restarted it again, Now the phone is ok but still with this 'Phone' thing
Have you tried doing a Restore from your Backup file?
It might not work, though. You might need to wipe your BB with a utility like BBSAK or JL Cmndr and reload the OS.
Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com
Of course i did, thats how i got all my 'Data' back
Now you make sense, Wipe the whole thing & Reload, will try it tom.
But isn't that what i just did, Wiped out OS 5 & Installed 4.5 ??
Just asking
Theoretically, yes. To be safe, delete, or rename your original installer file you downloaded and redownload and install the .175 OS file after uninstalling .175 from your computer.
Something isn't right, the download might have had an error in the file, the first installation failure was a clue to that along with the bizarre OS you saw.

Hi it's me again,,,, with regard to your advice in removing 3rd party apps from my bb 8330 curve, are the apps in bb world apps considered 3rd party??
