Thank you to this forum for giving me simple instructions on upgrading my OS. Maybe I can keep my unit running until a new model catches my eye. My browser was also old and I was receiving error messages about doing an update. Did this update include the browser? I think it must have because i didn't see the error message, but am not sure.

Try starting a new thread. You'll have better luck.

That is just the way Sprint does it for an 8330, you really don't have any way around it. If you had an 8330m then you would be able to view pictures sent via MMS directly on your BB.

Sprint has released a new release today. 4.5.0.186. Have installed but not many differences that I have noticed just yet.

Here's just a FYI I found from Sprint's website while upgrading to .186 just now.

    This upgrade (186) fixes:
    - Audio issues for ringers and alarms
    - Call flash issue

What about battery life for .186 compared to .175? Decreased battery life is something I noticed right away after I installed .175, and I am curious if .186 is better.

I also do NOT experience the same memory leak that a lot of other people are experiencing with this OS. Perhaps it has something to do with specific 3rd-party apps. The most I lose during the day is maybe 3mb, and after a reset I have almost 35mb of file free.

Before I installed .175 I wiped with JL_cmdr, and ran shrink a OS after I'd installed the OS on my desktop. Maybe that had something to do with it.

After using this build for several days, i can definitely feel the effects of decreased battery life, however it is not so bad that it's dead by the end of the day, even with EXTREMELY heavy usage, so it's not that much of a problem.

I maintain the statement in my previous post that there is no memory leak with my BB. I have the following apps installed:

    Ubertwitter
    Bolt Browser
    Facebook
    Poynt
    Viigo
    Quickpull

My file-free hovers between 33 and 34 MB and hasn't gone below 33 for the entire time I've been using this OS, and have not had to do a battery pull due to low memory.

One extremely negative thing I've noticed about this build is that it is LAGGY AS F%^K!!!!! Seriously, it laaagggggggggs, locks up, and overall IS NOT SMOOTH at ALL! In three days of using this, i've had to do a batt-pull about 2 or three times because it locked up on me with more than 2 apps running.

Hopefully the next official version rectifies this, or we get a kick-@$$ 4.5 hybrid using this build, because it's memory merits are there (for me at least).

It doesn't look good. By the way, this is the "other" thread, for the non-m version.

Sounds more like your memory card got corrupted. Those symptoms can easily be caused by the filesystem on your card getting messed up during the os install.

^^^ This. Then if your friend complains about chirping (if on Verizon), then swap the .sfi radio file for the .131 radio.

Not fair. BBMaps works with 4.5 (186) but not 5.0 yet otherwise 5.0 is so much nicer. What to do....
