I am a newbie (second post), and have had my curve 8330 for a week now.

The one thing that I don't completely understand is the difference between putting my Blackberry on stand by and keyboard lock. I mean I know the literal differences (ie. press mute to put it on stand by, and hit the the app to put it in keyboard lock), what I don't understand it why one would do one vs. the other since they both sort of do the same thing.

Is there something I'm not getting?

When your phone is in standby it will put battery usage to a minimum. It's basically a power saver feature.

...and there's less of a chance you'll pocket-dial 911 when you use standby. All it takes is when using keyboard lock is a few inadvertent presses of the trackball.

Take caution when you Lock your phone. When Locked, if you accidentally press a button, three options come up; Unlock, Emergency Call and Cancel. If you do this, is very easy to accidentally place an emergency call! I've done this a few times before I found out about Standby! Go with Standby, unless you want cops to show up at your workplace, home etc.
