Take your Curve to your carrier service center if you can, they'll usually install a new one at no charge. m on mobile, so I can't see your carrier. Sprint always did that for me, and I understand it was Verizon policy as well.
You'll need a trackball in the unit for navigation of the menu, if anything.
And maybe, just maybe they'll have some compassion and let you upgrade early.
