Disclaimer: I can't in any way warranty this information...it's just something I did based on knowledge learned here and my own knowledge and experiences. If you're not sure, don't do it. And if you do do it, back up everything beforehand.
Here is a summary of what I did, and it all seemed to work out okay. If any of the mods or other knowledgeable members see anything wrong or have other suggestions, feel free to jump in.
1. I made sure the original BB Maps app was removed/uninstalled using DM (the one that ATT users can't use.)
2. I used Morgoth's link and downloaded the file.
3. I extracted the .zip file to a Java folder in the loader files area. This is the one in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research in Motion\Shared\Loader Files\(device name)\Java\(new java folder)
(So far, none of this is really new as far as the location of these files and what they're used for. This is all in the "increasing your memory" thread that has been so helpful.)
4. I copied the .cod files from the new Java folder to the original Java folder (see 3.) Note I copied, not moved, just in case I might need to identify them later. They won't hurt anything staying in that new Java folder.
5. Here was the kicker. Three or four of the files had newer versions that already existed in the original Java folder. I believe these were there for the original (and heretofore unusable) BB Maps app. I don't recall the file names exactly because they're on my other computer, but you'll see them when you try to copy them over. Don't replace them during the copy process above, just keep the original files for now.
6. The first time I tried it, after everything finished, I went back to the DM to install the BB Maps app. It has kind of a different name, like L1.8 BB Maps or something weird like that. It appeared to install properly, but when I tried to run it on my device, I got an error that one of those files I mentioned in 5. was a different version/date. So it wouldn't run.
7. I checked the other apps on my BB to make sure none of them used these .cod files, and I didn't find any. (Go to Options/Advance/Applications, then select each one to see the .cod files they use at the bottom of the screen.)
8. Since I didn't see any other uses, I moved those three or four original .cod files with the later date to my "Removed Modules" folder. (Always make one of these folders and move the .cod files you don't want here...don't just delete them, in case you need them later.)
9. Once these were moved, I went back to that second Java folder and finished copying those three or four older versions .cod files to the original Java folder, like I had tried to do in 4./5. above.
10. Once I had done that, I went back to the DM to install it. Sure enough, BB Maps (with that funny name I think) was there for me to install in the AppLoader.
11. I installed it and it works like a charm now. Everything else does, too.
Note that I am using the 4.5.0.110 ATT release for the OS. If you are using a different OS, I can't say that the above would work.
I know this is long and rambling, but I hope it might help some. Good luck, and let me know how it goes if you decide to give it a try.
