    Hi all,

I received a new-to-me 8310 today which was running OS 4.2 without any problems. I attempted to update to OS 4.5.0.55 (which I have completed successfully on another 8310) and the Desktop Manager returned a message to the effect that a fatal error had occurred and that I should retry.

The device rebooted in a "BlackBerry Platform 2.7.0.68, which is text only, black and white, showing an error message "Uncaught exception: java.lang.NullPointerExcepton". This dialog box has what appears to be an OK button, but I cannot select it using the trackball or any of the buttons on the device. It appears to be stuck in this state.

I attempted to reboot, battery pulls, etc., rerunning the AppLoader to no avail. My PC is not even recognizing the device via USB.

Can anyone help? I would genuinely appreciate it.

    Dan

Update: I tried using CrackMem v2.7, which proceeded until the final step at which AppLoader gave the fatal error message and "Unspecified error encountered [J:0x00000005].

I now have a white screen with a black horizontal bar on my device. No text.

I'm going to attempt bricking it again with CrackMem and installing 4.5.0.55 because I've installed that on another 8310 successfully.

    I'd really appreciate any advice.

    Thanks,
    Dan

Instead of using 4.5.0.55 why don't you use this one instead? http://forums.crackberry.com/f52/new...-8320-a-75755/

Sorry, my original post wasn't clear. I connected the 8310, which was running 4.2 to my PC. I removed the IT policy and Desktop Manager (4.6) attempted to install 4.5.0.55 to it. That's when the error occurred for the first time.

I then downloaded 4.5.0.81 and attempted to install it and that's where we are. I will attempt a re-download of 4.5.0.81 to see if that's the problem.

    Solved.

I was able to load 4.5.0.81 successfully following the BlackBerry 101 #12 instructions.

Thank you for your help Greg and others!
