I just bought a Blackberry Curve 8330 and I was wondering if is there any way to expand the amount of text space you have in SMS? This is my first blackberry but every phone I have had before this has allowed me to type a couple thousand characters while the blackberry only allows 160 per message. I don't really understand it because I thought blackberries are supposed to be extremely text friendly but you can't type more than 160 characters per message? Thanks for your help.

SMS standards allow for only 160 characters to be sent per message. some phone OS's allow for a simulated way of typing out a longer message (some nokias will do 1000 characters). but in the end, the phone still must break it down into 160 character messages and delivers them as such. example, 165 characters will get delivered and billed as two seperate SMS's, one being 160 ch, one being 5 ch in length. some phones will deliver them seperately, some will automatically concatenate them into one long message for easy reading.

one way, a PITA though, could be to send the SMS as an email to the [email protected] phone email address. that will allow more than 160 characters i think.

FYI, the threaded SMS in OS 5.0's has concatenated messaging, allowing me to send 6 x 160 character SMS's at one time.

Beyond160 is my recommended Application. Works GREAT on 4.5 OS (if you're running teh 5.0 OS it doesn't need it, really).

    I highly recommend it.
