I am trying to convert from an ancient phone to a used BB curve 8310 from a friend and it is completely blank except this stupid error code 507.

My friend does not have the software or any of the original stuff it came with. I went to an at&t store and of course were not helpful.

Am I SOL or is there something I can do to switch to this phone?

Please help...

507 - you have no OS on the phone.

Download desktop manager 4.5 or 4.6 if you havnt got it.

Download the AT&T OS from the sticky above for the 8310, follow the instructions, (keep the vendor xml though as you are with AT&T) and you should be golden.

ok, I wasn't able to finish the downloas last night b/c I didnt' have the right usb port. I have this now and I connected it and it is not doing anything. do I need to download the os again?

Where are you at right now, what status is the phone in etc?

Are you following the directions in the link Rachel gave you? If you are, tell us what errors, problems you are encountering.

I am following the steps on how do I recover a dead BlackBerry and it seems to be working. However teh application loader wizard is running but my device went blank??? like the battery died. I have not disconnected. Is it still just working?

NEVERMIND it popped back and it has a picture of the phone with arrows to the computer. I will keep you posted.

I think I am good now! Thanks so much for the help!! One last question for any at&t users...can i just input my SIM card in the blackberry and then I am ready to go? will this transfer all of my contacts?

Yeh, you should go thru the set up wizard and all the contact saving info is all in there...

With the 4.5 OS you installed, you will be asked to import you sim card contacts. You will need to contact your provider and get the bis add on data plan to use your berry to it's full potential.
