i set up my person email on the phone which happens to be gmail. and then i found the gmail application and downloaded that to use instead, but i'm curious as to how do get rid of the personal email that i set up

You will need to log into your carrier's BIS site and delete the email account from there...wish I could remember their site, but I can't.
