Without an app I've not heard of yet, no. Your BB does not log-in to check your e-mail. Your messages are routed through your server and BIS simultaneously, and e-mails are automatically routed,'pushed', to your BB.

You can create a profile to use to control the sounds/vibe, so as not to be alerted at inconvenient times, if that helps.

If you were to use Gmail, you could load the Gmail app when you wanted to get emails and just unload it when you don't. Comes in real handy at times.
