I wonder if this can be done without taking the trackball out... OK I admit it, I'm afraid to disassemble this thing... But could it be done with a Q-tip?

i don't think it would be a good idea to use a q-tip and dye the ball that way. i know it's hard, but i would either remove the trackball all together or remove the ball from the whole trackball component.
Note to EVERYONE: I appreciate all of the interest and questions everyone is showing. Unfortunately I have not had time to fully explain and answer everyone's questions. But there is a problem, I keep getting the: How did you get your trackball a different color and how did you dye the ring around it.
These are questions answered here on the forum, and are pretty obvious if you look at the posts before asking. I have done a write up and no one is reading it and just asking. From now on, I will not answer any questions as obvious as how did you color your trackball. If you don't take the time to read my posts, I will not take the time to answer your question. I just simply do not have the time to be explaining the process to this many people all day long. I'm sorry. Please continue to post your pics, I really like the fact that people are having fun with this. Continue.....
