I am still puzzled as to why everyone keeps mentioning to delete the vendor file.... Unless they want to unlock the carrier themes... why?

Vendor.xml seems (I have only checked 8310 and 8100) to be the same file across all OSs and contains a list of phone models,carriers and OS versions currently supported by the various carriers.

With Vendor.xml present the Loader.exe program checks Vendor.xml and the phone model + its hard coded vendor ID against the version number you are trying to install. If the current phone and OS version number match what the phone is 'allowed' to install then the installation proceeds.

It seems that deleting Vendor.xml allows any OS to be installed on any phone (of the same phone type, of course).

I am not 100% sure of all this but looking inside the file and seeing what happens when I try to install with the file present indicate that something along the lines of what I'm saying here is happeneing.

Maybe I should call RIM and ask them....
