When I got the 8310 the other day the guy asked me if I was going to use email on my phone and I said no. I might be rethinking that....does it cost extra to set it up?

You should double check with your carrier, but if you have an unlimited data plan, email should be free. If you have the unlimited plan there are threads on this site with shortcuts to your carriers BIS site to sign up for email (to get your personal email pushed to your phone)
