Texting while talking does not appear to be possible for CDMA devices. See here: http://forums.crackberry.com/f83/ema...e-call-115295/

I have found that I am usually able to text while on a call if it is a very short message, as in 5 words or less.

SMS we can send/receive while in a call with CDMA(8330). Things that use data like email we cannot.

It must just be a Sprint issue then. I normally cannot send while on a call if I have typed more than one sentence. Small messages send fine.

8830 and 8330 on VZW that seems consistent with my experience. MMS, BBM, browsing web are a no go while on a call.
I thought that was supposed to be one of the advantages of 3G, simultaneous data transmissions.

*~*I thought I was the only one with that problem. It actually works most of the time, but there are those times when I get that *ugly* red "x" next to the little envelope...then I get all pissy & end the convo so I can send the text, & call the person right back!! It really is a hassle, but it doesn't happen that often...Are there any solutions yet??*~*

I'm glad I'm not the only one that does that, however I am finding if I make it a very short message it will usually send immediately.

I think it's just too much for the device to handle while in-call. CDMA can be, at times, less than reliable. However, I am experiencing same issue. I think it is possible on TDMA/GSM, though.
