    Does the charging indicator come on when connected to the usb port?

    Try a different usb port, and another usb cable if you have one available.

    Use BlackBerry Swiss Army Knife. It will detect a BB with nothing on it. Fix your issue and then see if DM can see it.

    You could also just go into BB App world and download a backup application, that way you don't have to plug in you phone and everything is always stored to a private web account.
