Virgin-poster here on CrackBerry.com, Although I've done quite a bit of lurking on the forums, and I just wanted to thank everyone for the wealth of knowledge. You're all aces.
To get to my question...I just ordered a black housing kit from cnn.cn for my Curve (cnn.cn/shop/blackberry-curve-8330-black-faceplate-p-3902.html), and was wondering if anyone could confirm whether it's for CDMA or GSM - it isn't specified on the site. I have the CDMA Curve.
This concern was brought to my attention after I placed the order...In any case, does it make a difference in terms of fit? From what I've read, the CDMA housing will not fit GSM, and vice versa.
They are different network technologies, but essentially accomplish the same thing. Both have their strengths and weaknesses. For example GSM phones use sim cards which make it easy to swap phones, CDMA does not. GSM phones have whats called "GSM Buzz" which can be quite irritating, CDMA doesn't have this problem.
Heres another way to put it, some people get on the internet with cable, some have DSL thought a phone line, they are both different technologies that give the same end result. For a more techinical breakdown have a read here: Code division multiple access - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ohok. Thank you for the explanation. I've been wondering for a while. But one more thing, would the two choice make a difference in what housings you can order for your phone as the OP was wondering?
Yes it would. RIM has designed certain models differently. For example with the 83XX Curve series the 8300, 8310 and 8320 are GSM models the 8330 is CDMA and uses a slightly different housing. Some of the noticable differences are the location of the LED status light, on the 8330 it is lower and part of the screen as opposed to the GSM models which is higher and part of the top housing. The two keys on either side of the trackball are also a different shape.
People have managed to put housings on models they werent designed for, but you always run the risk of something not fitting as it should.
You pretty much just have to buy a housing for your device, if you have an 8330, get that, if you have a 8300/10 or 20, get that, its in the description when you buy it.
I thought I read somewhere that after changing the housing, a dust seal is broken under the screen and from that point on, dust will migrate under it, to drive us anal people nuts!
Dust does get it there yes, depends how and where you keep the berry is dependent on the amt of dust, I get dust in there, but its easy to clean it out, just take the face plate back off and clean it. No biggie.

Oh, so you're one of us, Rachel? (It's a select group, to be sure)
