So I was listen to music in the car via BB.
And came in the house and went to use it, and the screen was blank except in the center it said "App Error 543, RESET."
So I hit reset. It did it's thing.
But after it reset it was really slow.
So I did a battery pull.
All seems to be well now.
What happend? And is it somehow preventable?

This error is like your forum name: Horrible. Here's a link from John Clark the renowned BlackBerry worldwide genius http://www.blackberryforums.com/hard...543-507-a.html John (and RIM) say that you need to reload the phone's OS when this happens.

If you need help with this, get back here.

    Uuggggh. Is that really necessary?
What it appears to say on there is to reload BDS as a resolution to Error 543. But it had the option to reset (which that page says nothing about) and seems to be running smoothly now.
Sorry, but it's like almost 4am, reloading the OS is not something I really wanna be doing right now.
I hope it's not absolutely necessary.

Ok well I know I have the BDS on my computer. But when I got to the applications its says "The BlackBerry Desktop Software does not have the BlackBerry Device Software for the device you have connected to the computer. Please contact your wireless service provider or system administrator." Well I hope the BB will be ok without it then..seems to be. Unless problems come up later...

    1) if it's running smoothly now, you don't need to reload the OS.
    2) You say you have the Device OS on your computer, but did you actually install the OS to the PC, or just download it? It actually needs to be installed onto the PC.

The desktop software (DM, which you have), is saying you don't have the device software (The Operating System for the phone)

Download and install this, follow the instruction on page 1
and you should be off to the races Good Luck!

Ok, so I had some stuff to do today, and now I'm back to this.
The phone seems to be running ok.
But I'm going to reinstall the OS anyway.
AG, I'm following the directions on the link you gave me.
    Where's the program files located?

    C:\program files\common files\research in motion
The vendor.xml is in the folder "apploader"

The OS you have to drill down to in the shared folder
until you get to the one named "Java"

I read that you now have the BlackBerry Desktop Manager installed and that you have the phone's Operating system installed.

Before proceeding, with the OS install it would be prudent now to do a sync and a Backup so connect the phone to your PC and select Synchronize. Once that's done, select Backup and make sure that you know where the Backup file is located on you PC. Most likely it will end up in My Documents.

Disconnect the phone from the PC and shut down DM.

Now you neeed to delete the Vendor.xml file. This is located in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader.

With all the preamble done, it's time for the real action soo please connect the phone to the PC again and start Desktop Manager.

If the installation does not start automatically then launch the Application Loader and that should do it.

If it asks to do a Backup then let it. It only takes a couple of minutes.

The OS load process can take a while and there is a point halfway thru' when the phone screen is white and there is just an hourglass displayed. This can go on for up to 15 minutes so do not worry.

Let the install and the Restore finish completely before you disconnect your phone.

    That's it. Good luck.

I deleted the Vendor XLM file.
Plugged in the BB and opened Desktop Manager and it did not prompt me to upgrade.
    What now?

Click the Application Loader button, and that should set it off
You should be able to see what it is upgrading.
You can also (highly recommended) remove the apps
you don't need like the preloaded video, unneeded languages,
etc... I am going back to bed but I sent Pete6 a PM asking
that he helps walk you through this.

It goes to the Application Wizard.
    Then to Device Application Selection.

Odd. Lte's just verify that the OS is really installed OK. Please go to Start on your PC, Control Panel, Add or Remove Programs and chech to see if BlackBerry 4.2.2 for the 8310 Series Wireless Handheld is present in the list.

Good. Were you able to do the Backup and sync. I r e a l l y do not want you to lose data here.

Also which version of DM do you have? I have both but on different PCs.

I tried to do a sync. But it said that there was nothing to sync.
It's not sharing anything with my comp though anyway.
I never tried to do that.
    And I did a backup.

    I have DM 4.3.

Enough of the soft stuff. The little pgorram I attach will force the OS update. All you do is to save it to your desktop and double click to open it and then double click on the file called loader.bat. It is the only file in there.

This will force start the OS load.

Please let me know as soon as you can see progress.

    It's erasing applications now.
So this will update it completely?
Anything necessary after this is over?
Why does that Error happen, do you know?
    Hah, sorry, 20 questions.
