I was wondering if anyone knows if putting the 8330 into the supplied holster is the same as putting it into standby mode via the mute button at top. Do both options retain the battery the same?

It depends on which holster was supplied with your phone. If the holster you have puts the phone into standby then it has a magnet in the holster which activates a little switch under the keyboard that makes the phone go to sleep.

Holding down the Muste/Standby switch does the same thing.

The battery savings from this are high.

I use a little $5 program called AutoStandby that does the same thing automatically. You can find it here at the Crackberry shop.

I may have to check the autostandby as I forget to put mine in standby sometime. I also forget to close some apps. If I forget to close google maps or sprint nav it really drains the battery when I am indoors.

For me, AutoStandby has transformed my BlackBerry. In one little program I have an auto-keyboard lock and a battery saver.

At the end of a call I just stick it back in my pants pocket and forget about it.
