Im getting a SPRINT blackberry curve 8330 and I'm guessing it will have a older OS version. The first thing I will do is upgrade it to 4.5.
What is the difference between 8330 and 8330m?
Which will I use?
Thanks

The 8330 is the older version of the bb. The 8330m is the newer model, and for the most part the only difference I can tell is the m has true mms, and the 8330 doesn't. A downfall I have seen is the 8330m is that it can't have the leaked or hybrid os installed on them. Personally I prefer the 8330 because I like the hybrid OS, but the true mms would be nice. Are you buying it new? If you are you should look into the 9630, or the new 8530.

I already bought it new, in box off ebay. How do I tell if I have the 8330 or 8330m? The ebay listing says 8330.
The newer BBs don't show any significant updates and cost more so...
Go to options screen>about it will either say 8330 or 8330m.

What makes you think it won't have 4.5 on it?
You will always load whatever OS is in your device field in the About screen. So, you can't load a 8330m OS on an 8330, etc.
Idk.... what does it usually ship with??
No 8330 and 8330m's have their own os's, and they aren't interchangeable. It would be nice if they were. There are a bunch of m owners that want os 5 but still can't get it.

Depends what device it is. Either way, it will probably have at least 4.5.0.131 if it is an 8330, and at least 4.5.0.138 if is an 8330m.
Ok, is it worth updating to the latest if If I do have 4.5?
From the questions you are asking, I am assuming you are new to the world of Blackberry. ;)
I advise you to stick with whatever OS is on the BB for at least a month, it will give you time to learn more about the BB OS before you start thinking about OS upgrades.
Read through some of the BB 101 lecture series, link in my sig below to learn more.
This is VERY sound advise!
If after a few weeks you still think you need to upgrade the OS, the latest current OS for the 8330 & 8330m are posted at the top of this forum.
There's a ton of useful information in the blackberry 101 series, and most of the questions that get posted here, are answered in the 101 series.
Welcome to CB, and happy holidays:D
I am experienced with Windows Mobile and I think I can handle Blackberries.
I have been researching and reading all over this site and others.
I think I'll be fine, an upgrade doesn't look hard. A ROM update on windows mobile would be the equivalent, or maybe harder because you have to unlock the phone first.
Before attempting an OS upgrade, make sure you have created a backup. If you don't know how to do that, that is a big clue you aren't ready to do the upgrade yet. ;)
Good luck doing an update of the os. The first time I did an update I bricked by berry. If you do it, don't worry. Just do a quick search on how to fix it.

My wife has an 8330m (red) and I have a black 8330. I have way more options on blackberry appworld than she does. Can anyone help me?
Carrier - sprint
BlackBerry Model - 8330 smartphone (CDMA) / wife's is 8330m
BlackBerry OS v4.5.0.175 (platform 3.4.0.55)
Version of App World 1.1.0.24
I have a question. I removed VAD so my "About" doesnt work. If I do the Alt+shift+H thing and it shows an MEID, does that mean I have an m?
I added VAD back and I do have an m, so nevermind then lol
