HI all, I am having trouble with my trackball. it scrolls just fine but when i press on it to execute I have to push real hard for it to register. I feel the click in it but still have to press real hard. I have removed the trackball and cleaned the inside of my BB, I didnt remove the ball from its housing but did wipe it down with alcohol. Any help is appreciated and thx in advance

I would get a new trackball, they are so cheap on eBay. When my trackball started acting up on my 8300, I bought a couple of trackballs on eBay to have as spares. I tried taking my trackball apart to clean it and was never able to put it back together correctly. So I learned my lesson. Now when my trackball starts acting up (dirty from heavy usage), I simply pop out the old one, and pop in the new one.

The click has nothing to do with the trackball mechanism. There is a microswitch under a membrane directly under the trackball assembly.

That is what is giving you problems. Unfortunately, changing the TB assembly may not give you the results you are hoping for.

So are you saying that the problem M.Vanderhoof is having cant be fixed? Does he need a new BB?

I still say try getting a new trackball.

    You never know.

If the OP's BB is less than 12 mos old, I would recommend taking it in for a warranty exchange.

I will explore my options. I appreciate both of your responses. I think its still under warranty but I hate dealing with people who have no idea (salespersons) of what is going on. Hence why I love this site...alot of insite is available here
