- How many of you Blackberry users have replaced your ipod with your Blackberry? (Yes, I already know that an ipod can't make calls, and has the ability to have more disk space.) I have about 20 gigs of music, and I know that there are 16gb Micro SD cards available, so most of my music would fit on it. Is the music manager program on the blackberry pretty user friendly like the ipods? Any input/opinions would be great! Thanks in advance!12-26-08 06:29 PMLike 0
- i havent used my ipod in 3 months until i dusted it off and used it today. Its much easier to use my bb though, i can just type in an artist, song name, album name...w.e. and find it in 3 seconds...R.i.p iPod12-26-08 06:51 PMLike 0
- CrackberrykillsThe CBKI enjoy my BB's media player; however, sometimes I wished it had a few more bells and whistles. IMO, it is not quite up there yet, but RIM is headed in the right direction. At any rate, I could totally see someone using his/her BB instead of an iPod.12-26-08 06:56 PMLike 0
- My iPod has basically been demoted to sitting in the iHome next to the bed to play music to me as I go to sleep. I use my BB for nearly everything else. My only problem is that I have ~40gb's of music so I have to kind of shuffle things around occasionally. Still not a major problem, 2-4gb's of music with me at a time is still plenty to keep me occupied through most situations.12-26-08 07:12 PMLike 0
- amazinglygracelessRetired ModUsed my 8310 as an MP3 player for a little while, but went back
to my 32gb SansaView. While the BB get the job done, it get it
done poorly when compared to almost any real media player IMO.12-26-08 07:21 PMLike 0 - Blackberry's media player doesn't even come close to my iPod Touch 16 GB for watching movies. I rarely listen to mp3s.12-26-08 07:28 PMLike 0
- I have been using my Curve as my main mp3 after I gave my Zune to my brother. The sound quality is good in my opinion, but it can't completely replace a stand alone mp3, it lacks many of the features a stand alone gives you. But if you just want to lug around one device I say do it. I have been using my Curve and the FlipSide app so far it's decent.12-26-08 07:32 PMLike 0
- I had my 30gb ipod video stolen and after a while I tried out my BB as a player(I was getting podcast withdraw). It works pretty well but not to the level of a standalone player. And antdogs24 point is a good one; I wouldn't want to suck my power dry and lose my communication ability. Also, the nano I just got as a replacement is much smaller and lighter for working out. But for using it in the car where I can keep juice running to it, it worked great and automatically paused the music/podcast when there was an incoming call/email/IM, which is a nice touch.
Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com12-26-08 09:45 PMLike 0 - I have an iPod 20GB that I rarely use now. I mainly use Berry Tunes to stream MP3 and AAC+ streams. I have a 2GB SD card loaded with music in case I am in an area with a signal too poor to stream.
I might just ditch the iPod entirely, but I haven't decided yet. My concern is wasting too my battery in the event of an emergency, as mentioned above.

I don't really use it to watch videos, and if I do, I could just load vids on it. Hmmm... This will be a tough one to decide, but it's looking like i will be converting to the Blackberry. BTW, if I just use the Blackberry as a music device, how long can I expect the battery to last? My 80gig Ipod Classic lasts about 20 hours, depending on how often I change the songs. has to maintain signal and such. The music player does not.
Considering the weight of the 2 items, I don't mind carrying them both.
The SansaView, my phone and my laptop and I'm ready to take on the world.12-27-08 02:21 AMLike 0 - It's nice to have that option on my bb to listen to music. Just learned how to transfer my itunes to my bb. Still learning what my bb can do. I'm still a crackberry baby.12-27-08 02:28 AMLike 0
- The battery issue is a pretty big deal, but it makes sense why an mp3 player's battery lasts a lot longer than the BB. Thank you all for your advice!12-27-08 02:33 AMLike 0
- I have an almost-full 160gb iPod Classic. No way I can cram all that into any SD card. I live on my iPod as much as I live on my BB. Considering I come from the 'Walkman' generation, carrying my BB and iPod, which collectively are smaller than a Walkman or two audio tapes, is perfectly cool by me.
Also, I have many iPod-integrating accoutrement, so it would be difficult to ditch my iPod even if I wanted to. Which I do not.
Lol, and furthermore (I keep thinking of stuff), while I agree with the integration of different gadgets over the years, I have yet to be compelled to step into the land of phone (BB)/mp3 player integration. Would be awkward for me in my truck, and just in general. I like having them separated.12-27-08 02:33 AMLike 0 - I listened to my bb for 7hrs non-stop on shuffle, just kept in my pocket. Checked my messages and browsed for a little bit all day at work. Didn't make any phone calls and had 3/4 left of battery life.12-27-08 02:35 AMLike 0
- The biggest problem with the blackberry's media player is the terrible seeking/skipping. If you pause and unpause asong, expect it to repeat the last second or two of music. One thing i LOVE about the blackberry though is the qwerty keyboard; it makes searching for music in my library incredibly easy!12-27-08 02:45 AMLike 0
- The replaying of the last second or two of a song is no doubt intentional. That way if you have to pause to say, take a call, you can unpause and not miss anything. Really good for spoken word.
I usually just listen to audiobooks at work, and I'm thinking also of using my bb for this purpose. The only drawback I can honestly think of is that I usually get 3 or 4 good shifts (8 hour nonstop listening) out of my ipod. I can't expect as much out of my bb. But then again I charge my bb every day.
I have a 130GB media library, so the bb is far from a capable replacement for my ipod, but as an alternative for work it might do the job.
I suppose iif you don't have a ton of music it might be a worthy replacement.

- I have read thread on how to sync my curve with I tunes. I have followed the instructions and only 3 songs were added. The rest were locked due to DRM technologies. My question is: How do I put music on there? I use a MAC by the way. Help will be appreciated. Thanks!
P.S. I have only had this wonderful device for 3 days and I love it!!12-30-08 08:41 PMLike 0 - I have read thread on how to sync my curve with I tunes. I would recommend you convert your itunes music, typically .aac file extension, to a friendlier format like .mp3. Then you should be able to transfer files till your heart's content.12-30-08 08:47 PMLike 0 - I have read thread on how to sync my curve with I tunes.
