Hi, I'm brand new to Blackberry. Just got the 8830 curve from Sprint. It came with a 1 gig media card, but I wanted to upgrade to an 8 gig. However, I read that the BB won't read an 8 gig card and some settings need to be changed/updated.

Can anyone explain the process I need to do in order to use an 8 gig card?

Also, any particular brand of media card better than others?

    Thanks!

You should really be looking in the 8830 forum for your device specific questions:

I don't know the 8830, but your OS should allow you to use up to at least a 4GB card. The newer beta OS is allowing Curve users to use up to 8GB though.

Well I believe you need the 4.5 OS to get a 8GB card to work... I could be wrong, anyone know if 8GB will work with 4.3? As far as I know 4.5 is only in beta so I can't really help you there. Just search around there is a lot of info on how to install OS's like the beta, then you'll have to go to google to actually get it. However if you have 4.5 8GB cards work great. I know this because that's what I have. Personally I recommend SanDisk. Although SD cards are regulated by a SD association so they should all work fine. Search eBay for a micro SD card. Just make sure it is from the US. The fakes will come from Hong Kong etc... I bought mine for $35 shipped on eBay. Good luck!

No worries! I was just pointing out that you'll be able to find better answers in the proper forum, as most of us know only the devices we have/had.

Thanks. I've been switching between 8830 and 8330 since I got the phone. Those numbers in particular are hard for my mind to grasp clearly, haha.

I thought I had read somewhere that the BB Curves and MicroSDHC in general supported up to 32gig? I know the biggest I have seen is 8 so far. Is it really OS/software dependent? I thought the Curve complied with MicroSDHC and therefore up to 32 with no problem?

FInd the OS version you are running by going to Options, About and noting the 3rd line down. Now look at this post http://forums.crackberry.com/f2/micr...c-cards-46673/

I have an 8330 with an 8gb SDHC card in it. It runs just fine. It gives me 7.6gb of storage - lot's more than I need at the moment.

I'm running the 4.3 OS from Alltel. There is a ton of info about this already in the forums along with links to the BB site where they list what OS works with which SD(HC) card.

I've been running a SanDisk 8GB MicroSDHC Memory Card (~$40) for about a month on my Sprint 8330 Curve (OS v4.3). I've loaded around 5 gb worth of pics, wallpaper, and mp3s - I have the mp3s stored in an artist/album, folder/subfolder structure and the BB is still responding quickly with no noticable memory lag.
