Hi What is the largest Micro SD card the Curve 8320 will support? Have been told both by different stores. I was going to get a 8g card!

    it depends on your OS.

Yep, I loaded the 8gb into my 8320 earlier this evening. It took a while to scan the 3gb of music but other than that works fine. There are other threads about sdhc cards, and they all advise putting the new card into the Blackberry for formatting before using it on a pc btw.

    Not true (only partly)

    it depends on your OS.

4.2 goes up to 4gb. 4.5 goes up to 8gb
Partly correct Oakie For the most part...

You can use an 8Gb microSD on any Berry!! That being said, only some OSes support the full Gb of storage, but you can always have the 8Gb and use it until you upgrade to a fully supported OS. BUT, what Oakie said is mainly true... OS 4.3 and 4.5 (all subversions) support 8Gb cards... OS 4.2 is different. With OS 4.2 only some subversions support 8Gb cards to their full potential (this has been tested and confirmed in another thread!!)

Go to Options > About ... what OS do you have?!

Either way, you can get and use an 8Gb card... depending on your OS the full capacity may or may not be available!

Pete your a gemstone my friend. The fact that you even wrote that 32G is a possibility for the bold gets me that much more pumped for it to come out. Just a thought. I have heard that the bold could be delayed until Sept. Doesn't the rogers (for any canadians in here) promo plan for the new 3g phones end Aug. 31? Would it be safe to say that the bold has to be released before that promo is up?

Actually Fat32 by Microsofts rules is 32 GB max for fat32 and I am sure since RIM is setting the max the memory card is used in each OS, that any card over the set number so for example 4 GB for 4.2.2 on most carriers other then Verizon, when it goes to format the media card, it will format it at the max of 4GB! I believe as I have not tested an 8GB card yet but I would assume that it is Fat32 for the file system!

^^^Sweet. I guess the 4GB limit I read about a while back was just the max file size of a single file, or something. Thank you for the information.

4gb limit was before 4.5 was created. my 8320 with 4.5.0.52 has my 8gig sandisk microsdhc card working smoothly. its great to be able to store so much, movies, pics, ringtones, documents. also with these 8gig cards being a steal now for 40$ on ebay...its a must have for all you media users.

For sure, Charlie. If there is a physical limit it is because of the 32Gb FAT32 address space limit. That is why I am suspicious of the Bols supporting 32Gb. It seems on one hand, logical to expend the sze limit to the max but on the other hand it seems a bit to simple to say 32Gb because everyone in the computer biz knows the 32Gb limit.

Wait and see seems to be the only way especially since we are only just begining to see 16Gb cards. 32Gb is 3-6 months away.

i am having problems myself with my 8gb card. i'm also running 8330 with 4.3.
the card is almost full, yet media player only sees about 1/4 of my music (guesstimating here.)

interesting thing is that if i hit the menu button while on the media welcome screen and "explore" the music folder, i can eventually get to the subfolder that houses all of my music. yet this roundabout way of getting to it is a pain.

the 8gb card technically works, but i'd like media player to work properly as well. anything y'all can think of? pete?
