I bought the 8330 about six months ago and purchased the High-speed data
package from Sprint. I have confirmed with my provider that I do have the
high-speed data package. I noticed that the phone is very slow while
connecting to the internet. I took the phone into the store where I bought it
which is a Sprint dealer. The person working there said the problem was that
I only had a 1X for radio signal and I needed a 1XEV. He messed with the
phone for about an hour and even talked to support while I was in store. We
tried re-provisioning several times and numerous other things. Eventually I
was told by support that the particular Blackberry I owned did not support EV
(EVDO) service and I would have to purchase a new phone. Any thoughts?

That doesn't sound right. Read through this thread for some explanation:

And I could be wrong, but I think all 8330 devices are capable of 1XEV.

You have an 8330 right? As far as I know they are wrong. I have the same phone. I only don't have 1XEV when I have a very poor signal.

Yes, I have the 8330. And both of the reps in the store had the same phone
as I did. Standing next to them, both of their phones showed the 1XEV and
mine still showed the 1X. The tech asked me to remove the battery, read
her a series of numbers and she put me on hold for some time and retuned to
the line and told me that the phone did not support the High-speed data.
Both the in-store reps just looked at me puzzled and pretty much shut down
    at that point.

What OS are you running? Can be found in the about screen. Also try going into mobile network and hit menu key and provision it. See if that does anything.

If the phone is only 6 mos old, have them exchange it under warranty (12 mo. warranty from RIM).

FYI, if you put a space between all your lines of text, it becomes difficult to read.

not sure what those reps were talking about. when we were on sprint, my wife got 1XEV all the time. now that we are with VZW we get 1XEV almost all the time. if fact it i can only think of one, maybe two times that it wasn't 1XEV. i agree, you might want to take it back and exchange it.

It has been provisioned many times. I am running v4.5.0.175(Platform 3.4.0.55) And I am sorry about my text. (edited all). There are no settings you can think of? I am off to the store once again to see about warranty. Thanks.

You might try going back to 4.5.0.138 and give that a try. My 8330 (Verizon) began having problems keeping the EV signal as well as getting that annoying chirp while on calls. I was running 4.5.0.175 at the time.

I returned that phone for a FRU also running .175 and continued to have the previous problems plus an added voice dialing loop problem. The store gave me another FRU and I left it at .138 and have had no problems over the last 3 days.

I have an 8330 and I show a 1XEV. I did notice that it dropped to a 1xev when I switched time zones while traveling.

I have a 8530 and I have tried to reboot 10 times now, I still get 1xev.... I have tried turning off the connection, and pulling battery, still comes up 1xev. What can I do now? Nothing? or do I have to get a new phone?

Are you in an area that you know has data coverage?
Have you called your carrier to see if they are having a tower problem in your area?
