Here's the situation (I'll keep it short)

I have an 8330 with Sprint and in my apartment I roam and use Verizon towers and get a 1X signal

My roommate uses a verizon curve and has full 1x and full ev coverage,

Why do I not get EV at all standing side by side?

I'm not 100 percent sure but I think that verizon phones would be able to get a better recpetion on a verizon tower than a sprint.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

You're simply roaming off VZW towers. Probably no Sprint towers in your area.

This is most likely the reason. 1x is what handles your voice amd SMS. EV is what handles data, to garrentee of data on the sprint device. it may happen byt your device may not be able to pick up the VZW data side.
