Bought a curve 3g for $10 at a pawn shop, made sure it was unlocked and put my sim in, but it won't connect to any network other than the carrier it was originally locked to

First off, you need a BlackBerry BIS plan to use mobile data, push email, and BBM.

How did you "make sure it was unlocked" ?

I assume that you did check if it works with your network bands. Curve 3G includes both GSM and CDMA version.

The 9300 can be unlocked for FREE. There is a guy on this forum that will do it for legacy BBOS phones, such as the 9300. Do a search, and you'll find the right thread.

Be AWARE though, that certain 9300 phones, even when unlocked, will NOT work on some GSM networks, depending on the support bands. For instance, a Wind 9300 (from Canada) will never work on ATT anymore because it seeks a **2G** band that no longer exists. An ATT 9300, however, will still work because it looks for the 3g band. If you have a Verizon 9300, it will use 3G on Verizon but if unlocked, will look for 2G on ATT and therefore WILL NOT WORK as a phone. Of course, you can still use it as a darn good PDA with wifi...
