I just picked up a curve for a spare/emergency phone, and really like it. one issue that I"m finding is that my phone plan does not include any data(by design), but I"m always around wifi so I never cared or needed it. to do things like browse and use the podcast search, do I *need* a mobile data plan, even though I'm connected to wifi? When I try searching podcasts, i get "you do not have a connection to the mobile network" can someone explain/offer assistance as to what, if anything, I"m doing wrong?

BBOS powered phone require a BIS plan.... which is part of a special BlackBerry Data plan.

There are ways around it https://forums.crackberry.com/showth...1#post11347966

Depends on where you are, and depends on you finding someone at the carrier that knows what it is.

AT&T post paid still has BIS. You would need to register the phone (in one of the submenus) and wait a day or so for the Blackberry servers to recognize you. After that, you can use BBM (although few people do anymore) and Blackberry email service. Texting / calls don't require BIS. Don't use a 9300 for internet, it is a poor experience.
