Since the last software upgrade my classic uses my entire data plan without me doing anything with it. No new app, no changes on my part. I never used more than 100mb before, now it uses 250 in a matter of days.

That is strange,
Go into the BBVE app and check what apps are using your mobile data. It should show you a list, in order from what app used the most, to what used the least

Did you happen to download your software update over the air?

No, all wi fi. Looking at the usage stats its a bunch of apps constantly using small amounts of data. Including apps that I don't want and you cant delete. Like amazon appstore.
If you don't use it, then tuck it in a folder and do your best to ignore it.
I haven't opened the amazon application store in months. I just have it hiding in a folder, and it has used 400kb this month (Dec 1-9) on my device.
So once you stop opening it, you can expect it to use as little data as that.

I find data control on BB10 not to be the best. My classic does not use like all my data...but I am not able to control the data-hunger of specific apps.
For example, even not using BBM for like a month...it might still use 20mb. This is probably due to updating the sticker-store etc in the background. 'Apps' like Standby or System are also using data.
I have a good data plan so I don't mind. My wife has the Q10 and was annoyed that she is not able to get rid of the data-hunger of certain apps when being abroad. We know one can switch off data while roaming altogether, but when you want to use Whatsapp it's not a real option.

I don't use BBM ever, and as you say its sucking data. Can't delete it either. Its my phone I should be able to decide what's on it.
I guess not.
How do you not use bbm?
I use glympse every time i'm on my way to meet up with people. They can see how long until I arrive and, more often than not, seeing me on the map sparks their memory and they ask me to pick things up on the way.
Transferring files is handy too

Is it not Blackberry to Blackberry only??
As far as I know, it works with all devices. (could be wrong)
The only thing that's BlackBerry to BlackBerry is BBM video.
A Berry A Day Keeps The Apple Away
I find Skype uses a lot of my data, even if I don't use it for a day or so. I have a 300 MB silver passport plan from ATT since I live overseas. I wanted a phone plan that gave me a phone number I can always use since I move around third world countries a lot and the roaming on the plans where I live suck. I was in Myanmar last year and Nepal this year. I have a second phone (9860) for my local sims.
Mine uses a ridiculous amount of data too, even if I'm connected to wifi. After calling my service provider and being told that I needed to reset my entire phone (their answer to EVERY problem - UGH), I started looking for solutions myself. In settings, under Networks and Connections, click on mobile network. There is a button next to Data Services, turn it off. That turns off your provider's data plan, but allows you to still use wifi - if you're connected to a wifi network. My provider data usage has gone back down to a manageable level. It's very inconvenient to have to turn the data services button on and off, but it helps with the cost of my provider data plan. Hopefully, Blackberry has fixed this issue on the Priv
My Wife had a similar issue on her Z10, something was using 500 MB data, and on checking things, I could see that BBM was the culprit for some reason, even though she never used it. You can "disable " BBM using Parental Controls. You can find this in Settings, Security and Privacy . Since then, data usage has returned to normal.
From my Z30 STA100-2 on OS 10.3.2.2639
Thanks for the Tip...

Thank you, you can also disable amazon apps there as well.
