All of a sudden, on or about May 1st, when a new photo is taken, having been taking correctly with the phone held vertically as usual, when viewed in"Pictures" it renders upside down.

There are two other threads mentioning this same issue. One is Q10 and one in BB10 OS. The only replies they got were "restart", "reload the os," and "return it". (and the smarta--,"just hold your phone upside down.")

My question is, why is this happening and does anyone have a fix.

I've tried the restart, but haven't did a reset.

    Thanks.

Try turning your phone 180 degrees.

Buttons on top! Aleays buttons on top! If you take a picture in portrait mode the power button must be on top, if you are in landscape mode the multimedia buttons must be on top. Never the other way around.

If you haven't installed any apps I say do it reset. Has to be something in your settings.

Ok. I figured it out on my own.
How? Well, I just happened to open my "Compass" application and Lo and Behold, it was all screwy. I mean not even in the correct plane.
So, as a test, figuring that maybe the magnetometer was malfuctioning, turned off the app, held the phone by it's sides, and with a light "thump", bumped the bottom of the phone on my desk.
I then opened the Compass Application. Sure enough, north was now north.
I closed the application and opened my camera.
    Clicked a picture.
Ta Da !!! The photos now render correctly in the Pictures application.
Problem solved. But, I'll never trust the compass.(not that I did before, really)
Now the question is, why did this effect the picture rendering?

I think the orientation of the pictures depends on the compass app in the same way as it depends on the air pressure. I told you above what't the reason of your upside down pictures.

Do you have any app that inspects EXIF header of the photo? If not get Effetica (Pro or Social) and check what's in that header (use Image info tool). Try to take few pics holding your phone in different orientations and see if orientation tag changes. For Q10 usual orientation (keyboard at the bottom) it should be left-top

Like an old fashion TV or radio, a little tap can straighten things out:-)

I tapped my BB10 and the camera started taking pictures right-side up. Thanks for the help. I would have never guessed the solution.
