The interesting thing is... I have no issues charging my Classic while it's off, and I cannot charge my Passport while it's off. :-\

I've done it. My phone didn't bricked. Do don't worry. Make sure to charge it before turning it off

Interesting. My Classic won't charge when off if the battery is higher than 10%. If the battery is 10% or lower, it charges when off.

Today I received a 10,000mAh external battery. That will assist me when the battery gets under 25%.

No problems here, use about 43% during the day and charge regularly during days with saturation charge at night, all with unit powered on.

If you are letting your li-ion battery charge get extremely low or shut off low, know that you are destroying the battery, and then we will have to put up with you back here whining in a few months that the battery had a short life and BlackBerry must suck.

I usually charge my BlackBerry as soon as hits 30%, nowhere near "extremely low"!

Well as you said "all with unit powered on" - that works fine for me too. But as soon as you turn it off, it won't charge anymore..

The reason is cellular network's radiation.

The solution is Bedside Mode with Wireless Networks Off setting.

    Won't drain battery
    Won't be a health hazard
    BUT
Will be a cool bedside clock (user's choice)
    Will charge, and
    Will act as the alarm.

    CB10 @ Q5
Does the Classic have a Bedside Mode similar to the BB9900 ?

As Alain_A said, the latest leak should fix the problem, hopefully the carriers will roll out the new update to everyone soon!

I think it's hardware related because I have the same stock software on my device, the first did not charge will turned off, this one does flawlessly with both charges the one that came with the device and the blackberry 1.8mAh charger from Amazon

With my first Classic I had exactly the same issue. Powered off, plugged in: Not loading.

I returned that one and got a new one yesterday. And this one is not having the problem.

Powered off and when connected to the power cord the red light comes up for two seconds. Then it blinks yellow/green.

Could be either a flaw in the software or in the power electronics.

Ok ........ (almost said du me) -the only difference between the two classics I had were the hardware not software. I'm not running a leak. ...I'm using .747 ...so. ......if one device charges and the other doesn't. .....................
