what does that mean

It means the call has HD quality.
No, it means the person you're talking with is Hyper Dumb.
This is more amusing than it should be.

The call will drop down to SD if you move out of a 3G/4G area.
Classically posted.
Definitely means Hyper Dumb.
Yeah I have this all the time on all my calls it seems like and really is good quality amazing sounds like your in the room with the person talking face to face crystal clear no background noise or interference blackberry is without doubt the best for call quality miles ahead of the rest.

Lots of phones support HD calling.
I talk on speakers with 90% of my calls and the HD makes the sound clearer then any phone put on speakers out there.
I know I just find blackberry's call quality superior to the rest all round.

Hyper dumb! :p HA!
I had to laugh

I agree and this is precisely why I still say the Blackberrys have the best call and speakerphone quality.

As stated, the HD icon will be displayed when your voice call is using the HD Voice technology which uses higher quality audio encoding to provide crisp, clear sound over voice calls, similar to what you'd hear using a service such as Skype for example. This tends to only work for calls with the person on the other end being on the same carrier (e.g. Telus-to-Telus), or between carrier/discount brands (Telus-to-Koodo, Rogers-to-Fido, Bell-to-Virgin Mobile), and vice versa.
Being blonde, what does the HD icon look like? I don't think I have ever seen it on my phone.
Please note that this is from an older version of BlackBerry 10 OS so the dialer looks a bit different now, but if you take a look at the right hand side you'll see a bubble with "HD" written inside of it. Yeah of coarse and also partly down to blackberry and the way the device is built from the off antennas and speakers etc I ring people on different networks from me and even landline numbers and every call has that HD icon which is a good thing.

"HD" means the Hyper Drive is ready. End the call the activate.
