I completely agree. Everyone remembers the old way BlackBerry phones used to be, not the way they are now. It's really unfair how BlackBerry phones gets a bad rap.
Indeed, and BlackBerry have but them self to blame for that.

Lack of advertisement / public awareness not to mention the hasty realise of BB10, which should never had come in at 10.1 (which was not upto speed with competitors, yet alone pass BlackBerry. But, that's another story).

All of the previous miscalculations don't come to abandoning bb10 for Android in my opinion.

i think they're thinking they remember using a locked down or hand me down work issued one and didn't like it. i've always been infatuated with bb based on wanting a full qwerty and 'big screen' vs T9 flip and remember finding a work issue bb in the snow next to an executive's car one time. I wanted to keep it so bad but returned it to that ungrateful person who hadn't even noticed their work tool was gone.

When smart phones started to saturate the market as personal consumer devices, Apple came and said we want our phone to be your phone, it's magical and junk. Google said we're all your fav services you love to use customizable to your liking with options from many mfgs you've known and love. bb said, we're a work phone, and everyone who doesn't like work or have IT at one time shove one down their throats, said BORING

    It never will..

    I'm forever BlackBerry.

Not through "fanboyisim", but because it does all that I need from a mobile device.

I like the comment made as it does appear that JC is out to do just that.

Personally, they should have stayed with just OS and maybe partnered with another hardware manufacturer. BUT, that's all hindsight, and I ain't no CEO!

I don't think that whatsapp is going to reverse their decision unless BB makes some big announcement by the end of the year. If they don't, there's no hope left.

On the bright side, you still have by the end of the year to see what direction bb is taking and if it's worth to invest in the new line of androids. Till then, they have enough time to improve their android apps and Rome looks like a good replacement for classic.

If they could have done that, they would have never had to go Android.

OHA rules are pretty clear: no Google Play Services or Google apps unless you are running a 100% compatible pure Android device.

As a consequence of selling Android device(s), they can no longer develop the Android Runtime on BB10. BlackBerry has officially announced no change to it in 10.3.3.
Blackberry sold it's soul to the devil.

I'm planning to split from BB10 in eight or nine months' time. I use a Classic, and its specs were already poor and outdated when I bought it. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy using it, but Facebook, LinkedIn, Foursquare don't support their native apps; quite soonTwitter and WhatsApp will cease updating their native apps. And if the next BB10 update is the final one ever, what's the point?? I admire the developers (whom I could count on one hand) who are still battling away, but their efforts are increasingly sporadic and middling. So I'm giving my phone eight more months at best.

I blow 'hundreds of dollars' several times a year on new phones, but even so, I keep coming back to and sticking with what I love...

Up until November of this year I was running my 9900 on line one and alternating between my Classic, Galaxy S6 and Nexus... After I retired my 9900, I quickly put my Classic, a device nearly 2 years old by this point mind you, on line one and then went on to alternate between my Priv and BlackPhone 2... I anxiously await the new HP Elite x3 to add to my rotation...

I like phones... It's my 'thing', but I LOVE BlackBerry, this is where I personally find my mobile perfection, regardless of how 'dated' the device I'm using may be to 'some'... Despite being frivolous in my spending and having my pick of any device out there, my primary line has been and will continue to be as long as possible held by something yielding a BlackBerry propriety OS... "App gap" aside (which means nothing to me personally as I don't feel the need to use even a fraction of the data-mining apps many feel they can't live without anyways), no other OS to date provides the level of native integration and true multitasking functionality I require from my main workhorse. My biggest hope for the upcoming 10.3.3 OS update BlackBerry has been working on (forever it seems) is that they improve the native browser giving it the longevity it needs to remain functional for several years to come... This is all I will need to keep my Classic chugging along for the next few years+... I am happy with my Classic and can continue to see myself happy with it for much longer than its anticipated EOL... Hell, if they updated OS7's browser and give it a security patch or two there just for fun I'd still be clinging to my 9900 as well. As long as the browser and security are up to date the device is gold to me...

Maybe don't hold out too much hope for 10.3.3 making too many changes/improvements, maybe the update after that. Right now they seem to be focused on Android to try to stabilize their hardware division...

Good question. And food for thought.

Personally, i'll still see life in my Classic as most of the stuff I do on my phone are not app dependent.

However, if that is what BlackBerry intends to do, then all I'd ask of them is that they continue to patch updates as I do a lot of Internet / security related info on my device.

    (I think I'm at stage 3 now - "bargaining")

Well, I'm not one to say that it needs to be the "fastest" phone out there, but having a faster processor can have its benefits, including battery life. Usage matters more when it comes to power consumption. A CPU being pushed to its limits often will likely use more power than a faster CPU not being pushed. So as long as you're not constantly playing 3D games and doing other things that would push your CPU or GPU, it can be geared to be more power efficient. And also a faster CPU will get things done quicker, meaning it'll spend less time working and more time resting, you get things done faster so the screen doesn't stay on as long, etc... For example, if you put in a 2GHz CPU, and downclock it to 1.8GHz and turn down the voltage applied as well, it will likely get the same things done faster and with less power consumption than a phone with a 1.5GHz CPU doing the same thing because of the factors mentioned above.

Since someone else brought up cars, here's the perfect example. Someone (think it was Top Gear) did a test where they took a Toyota Prius and drove it around a track as fast as they could push the car. Then they took a BMW M3 (V8 engine) and went around that same track but only fast enough to match the Toyota Prius lap time. Guess which car used less fuel. Yep, the M3...

If it continues to function to my satisfaction then I do not care who says what about its life expectancy. If it works, then it's alive!
