    Doesn't one have to shut off the phone in order to swap batteries?

    Yes, it forces a re-boot. 2-3 minutes on a Q10 or 9900. THE advantage of external packs is the ability to plug in without call interruption. Carried and used one of those for years for such occasions. Problem is, being human, once I've permitted the device to shut itself down, mid call, I can re-call the client within 3 minutes on my 9900. MUCH quicker than external packs, in my experience.

    Sounds like the fixed battery is here to stay.
    Yeah, that's the impression I get. Hard to believe fixed batt attracts more sales than it sacrifices but... BB's marketing research resources are a little beyond my pathetic sampling.
