    Hey everyone,
Sometimes my phone loses signal and says that only emergency calls are available. When I unlock it, the screen shows that I have AT&T service. Usually restarting the phone fixes the issue, but I was wondering if anyone has had the same problem? We were on T-Mobile before switching to Verizon.
    Thanks!

That's really weird, but actually kinda cool! At least you know you would be able to access 911 if need be!

That's not weird at all. Verizon phones will Roam on other towers if they phone has the proper radios in areas with spotty coverage. This is called Domestic Roaming, and since Verizon has Domestic Roaming agreements in the areas they have spotty coverage, you don't get billed for this Domestic Roaming; Verizon calls this their Extended Network.

He's talking about the red phone 'emergency only' icon, NOT roaming. I know what roaming is.

I think he is saying when he has that emergency only red icon and unlocks his phone, it shows he he is connected to the A T&T network, which could well be domestic roaming.

I had a similar issue and in the end all was related to the radio file version.
You need to specify which radio file version you have.
In my case the best versions, concerning signal strength, we're 3.2.798, 841 and now. 2339.
Since I upgraded to 3.2.x this issue is gone for good. I have good signal strength and stability.
I am running my Classic under Movistar (Argentina), which uses the same protocols than ATT and Rogers.
    Cheers.
