I think it is pretty fair. I disagree about the BlackBerry hub. It's what keeps me coming back.

I'm so tired of kids reviewing things they know nothing about.

But it's fine, execs, CEOs and people that actually work for a living don't read that crap. Just young, easily influenced kids.

I have the classic, it replaced my iphone 6 (had the z10 but the battery was dying) as my daily driver. And I have not been this productive in many years. Rarely even pick up my laptop now to reply to emails. Something I did all the time with the iPhone as that phone is terrible for compiling well written emails. I actually feel bad for my surface pro 3, I brought that solely for project management and work emails, but I haven't picked it up since getting this phone

Not sure they matter. There are lots of positives out there for the Passport and the Classic. The Verge hasn't been kind to BlackBerry in some time.

Worst? Interesting synopsis. The reviewer actually praises some of the very things folks were ambivalent about here.

Not a bad review all things considered. Gave props to what the phone is good at and criticized what it sucks at.

All reviews are subjective, they resonate with some readers and not with others.

Got one of the very first Q10s when they came out and was looking forward to the Classic, but at this time doubt I'll be jumping on board right away and wasting an upgrade on it. Will probably wait till they start popping up on CL for half the price and grab one then... or just listen to the advice and cut the cord already...

Thats a very very biased review. I had the Q10 before picking this up. Before then i had the Bold 9900. And now i am loving the Classic. Having used all three, and like i said in another thread, the Classic is simply an amalgamation of the best of what the Bold 9900 and the Q10 can offer. A sort of the best of both worlds. And honestly i have said this somewhere before and i am not afraid to repeat this, it might end up being the best phone ever made by Blackberry yet. Only time will tell.

I don't think it's fair to review a phone that you have no understanding of - and then tell people directly "Don't buy this phone", can you get more biased?

He conveys a lack of demographic knowledge, and slanders it based on his own 'wants' in a smartphone - despite not being within the intended market for said device.

So to sum it up its a efficient phone like no other, great keyboard, useful tool belt, and above average Batt life. But don't buy it lol.

It's like tommy Lee Jones? What, a solid performer?

It's a good thing I don't make my smartphone decisions on how well they play games

Doesn't have good camera? It sucks.
It's not fast for my liking. It sucks.
No apps for my liking. It sucks.
If you're not a BlackBerry fan, I don't know why you would buy this.
He wrote a review with a mindset that it's a bad phone. I don't know how long he used the phone but I doubt it's more than 2 weeks.
Phone reviews these days only look at the outside and the hardware. If it's not good, it sucks! They don't want to spend time with the software long enough to know that the OS has to offer.

It's funny they had to release their review one week late as they obviously weren't sent a review unit by BlackBerry so they had to go and buy the phone.

He gets the point of the Classic, but he doesn't get it either. He opened his review with:

This is what the BlackBerry Classic was made for: jamming on email with one hand, pounding out replies like a boss, confidently walking off the plane and to the airport bar to pay exorbitant prices for watered-down drinks that make the pain of modern air travel slightly more bearable.
Exactly. It wasn't meant for gaming or Android apps or Netflix. It was made for communications and productivity. So while his criticisms of the phone are valid (old tech, slow android load times, etc), there are people out there in business who just need/want a good communications device. The Classic is it. His review would be like an auto reviewer test driving a Toyota Corolla and complaining that it does not have the performance of a Ferrari or luxury of a Mercedes. The Classic is what it is; a communications device with a much improved web browser. Apps are secondary. If apps are really important then Classic users would be buying iPhones on BYOD. But we know how well the iPhone handles communications for power users.

In terms of his complaints about the hub. Maybe I am not a big hub user, but I'll let you all decide:

    • 3 email accounts
    • Facebook account
    • Twitter account
    • Linkedin account
    • BBM
    • Whatsapp
    • Text messages
    • Phone calls

My hub can be quite busy due to the above, but I don't have an issue with this. I find it a time saver being able to see everything in one place. With that said, we have the option to exclude accounts from the hub and view them in isolation. In terms of his criticism that there are too many options... LOL! If there were not enough hub management options I have a feeling Dieter would criticize BlackBerry for that. Too many options are never a bad thing. And frankly, the options are not confusing or too abundant at all. You don't need a PhD to configure the hub. It really isn't hard at all.

I agree, it was based on my own opinion of the classic.

I was an avid iPhone user prior to this, I still have stock in BlackBerry, and I had the Q10, but the screen was just little to small for my aging eyes. I also missed the trackpad above the keyboard of my berry's of old. So the 6 seemed like a great option.

iPhone 6 - great media device, consumes media like no other. Terrible at email management, even worse at lasting all day. Great camera pics but not one hand friendly. My kids love the iPhone, lots of apps, very very easily to use, or user friendly - which ever you prefer.

BlackBerry Classic - sucks at a media device. Kids hate it because they crnt find netflix on it. I haven't played games, other than brick breaker - which is fine, but it's like playing snake on a 2012 Nokia, not the same as a 3210. Email management - perfect. As a work device, I cannot see why anyone would not want to pick this device up and give it a solid try.

Agreed, this is not meant for the masses, or kiddies, or anyone that doesn't have a work email address for their job. But for the people that do email, work ridiculously long hours and require a device to handle all that. I see no reason why the classic cannot fill that space for them.

I think that the past mistakes made by former CEOs at BlackBerry have maybe left a sour taste in many people's mouths. I just hope that people will see past the odd **** up, and give this baby a whirl.

Any chance you could just copy and paste the article in your post so that we can just read it here and not have to go to another site. Also, the negative article is usually driven by a desire to attract attention and drive more hits. I don't want the author to accomplish this goal.

iVerge is extremely biased. They had a one minute review of the Nexus 5. It was pretty much: "It's a little slow like most Android phones. The camera isn't that good like most Android phones." Even though there was no signs of lag as he was scrolling through the phone.

I was ok with most of the review. I felt his last line stung a bit. I don't feel it's time to move on if you are happy at least if your phone does most things a modern phone does. He did have a lot of praise for the phone though.

I really wish BlackBerry just did the right thing and put at least z30 specs on the device. At least we wouldn't have to hear reviews complain about it.

Not sure some of you get it. Blackberry has less than .05% market share. A better processor, battery life, toolbelt or no toolbelt will not make a dent in that number up or down.

It's a long road to a comeback... that's right next a huge cliff with no guardrails.

The fact that a passport and classic exist is in and of itself a miracle.

The people who care about this phone, is not everyone. One big takeaway is how quick they are to gloss over just how good it is at what it's intended for. Working / typing / on the go.

Some people will care about that. Will be interesting to see if it's as big as it seems, but I think it could be a perfect size for some folks.

Not to mention it has support for miracast, slimport ( )

This would be a cool meeting machine with the trackpad.
