I know the classic doesn't support quick charge. But I have several quick chargers from my previous device. The sales guy told me I could still use them with the classic since the charger has a regular charger output as well.

I was just hoping to get some opinions from the experts. The sales guys don't always know their stuff.

The charger that came with your Classic puts out 850 mA (milli-Amps) of current. Charging it at a lower current will take longer for it to reach a full charge, but will increase the life of the battery. Regularly charging at a higher current will result in a shorter charge time, but will shorten the life of the battery.

So charging with a fast charger even though it has the ability to charge slower is bad? It's 1amp I believe

5V + 1A is fine. I always use 1.8 A for my Z10 which is the same charger as the PlayBook

Crap. I just looked up the tech specs
    Standard output: 5V/2A (10 watts)
Fast charge output: 9V/1.67A (15 watts)

I guess I should stop charging with that charger.

My phone doesn't support fast charge. So it would charge at 5V/2A

The only device that could possibly support it currently is the Passport. But it might not. 801 qualcomm makes it possible though.

Your phone will automatically stop charging when it reaches a full charge, but charging a Classic at 2 Amps is more than twice the recommended .85 Amp charging current and over time it will shorten the lifetime of the Classics non-removable battery.

Verizon doesn't sell 850mA chargers. So I have to carry around the charger that came with my phone

There are lots of 1 Amp chargers out there, any of which would be a better choice.

It's ok to use the fast charger. The phone will not allow to much power to come through. It limits the charger to what the phone can handle. I use my note 4 charger with all my phones have had no problems. Also just looked it up and read the same thing. The phone will only allow so much power to come through don't worry about it these devices are a little more advanced then they get credit for

I've been using the same 1.8 on my Q10 and now Classic without any ill effect. Heck my VZW Q10 and Classic battery life are two of the best for all devices I have owned since 1993.

Yes, it's ok to use a fast charger. Yes, the phone will control the charging process by monitoring the voltage and temperature. Lithium ion cells are complex temperature sensitive chemical devices. Charging at high currents increases the internal temperature.
No, you won't have noticed any problems with your phone, but your battery is not going to last as long as it would if you didn't regularly use a fast charger.

The Verizon site lists the classic as being compatible with the fast chargers. It also lists this for both regular and fast chargers

    Compatibility
Auto Detect IC Technology automatically recognizes the device type and its specific charging needs for improved performance.

Yes, the Classic is compatible with regular and fast chargers. If regularly fast charging your phone is important to you, that's fine. And, if the lifetime of your battery isn't a long as you hoped, you'll probably want a new phone by then anyways.

I would just like to share my experience on this. Reading here I thought it was okay to use a higher mah charger so I bought a nokia 1.5 mah charger. Sure my device charged faster but it would heat up very much during charging also the battery would drain incredibly faster. Eventually over the period my mother board had got damaged.
