    Backup old phone first, understood.

    Then?

I'm guessing one will simply install Blend then have Blend do a special step by step transfer of things from BBOS to the Classic?

I'm hoping it's a nice seamless transition to get all contacts, memos, tasks, files, SMS, bookmarks, voice notes, map locations, calendar, password keeper, etc. transferred to this new device.

Perhaps Crackberry can do an article on this process to help the mass BBOS exodus?

Blend doesn't actually transfer anything. You need Link. As for how-to's, well nothing has really changed since the first BB10 device. It's all the same process.

Also be patient. Remember BlackBerry os 10 is all about tap, flick and swipe motions. Combined with the same familiar keys you are use to!

Also a key note not really discussed: BIS is no longer used in os10. Make sure your transition your email to another one @blckberry.com will no longer be supported. Without data compression of BIS you will need a larger data package than one currently used if you are on 4G or LTE. You will go thru more data usage. OS10 going forward only uses your BlackBerry id which is prompted for you to enter your BlackBerry ID and password during setup and that will operate as your BlackBerry id not the @blackberry email. BIS servers are NOT used in os10.

So what order should these be done in to have least issues?

    • Get sim and carrier working (getting calls and cell data to work).
    • Get all accounts (email, storage and social) added.
    • Restore your Link BBOS backup into the new BB10 phone.

When I migrated from a Bold to a Q10 I did it all using the online Bbos 7 backup in BlackBerry protect. You can restore to a bb10 device although you can't backup BlackBerry 10 the old way. Link is needed to backup bb10 but can't backup os7. (or at least link did not backup os7 18 months ago)

Take a look at the device switch app. You might not need to use Link to make this happen.

http://ca.blackberry.com/support/tra...cts-media.html seems like you'll need link. But for time being maybe device switch is faster to get the rest on the device.

    1) purchase a nano sim and have that active and ready and also check with you provider if you need an updated data plan.
2)its better to add them manually during setup to prevent upgrade issues.
3)using BlackBerry link transfer calendar and contacts only. Do not transfer anything else as it may conflict with os10.

So basically device switch only. Don't need link for that.

Yes but be mindful to not syn applications, as you will run into os conflicts. Only synchronize calendar and contacts. Even settings may conflict as the settings are a bit different in os10.

Looking at it, Device Switch app only transfers the following, missing several items:

    Contacts
    Calendar items
    Pictures
    Videos
    Files and documents
    Notes and Memos

Whereas, Link has the potential to transfer more:

    Contacts*
    Files (pictures, music, documents)
    Calendar items*
    Tasks and Memos*
    BBM™ contacts
    Browser bookmarks and folders
    Alarm/clock settings
    Text/SMS/MMS messages
    Phone Call Logs
    WLAN Profiles (for non-enterprise networks)
    Password Keeper entries

When I switched from my Bold 9900 to the Q10 a year and a half ago, I used Link's Device Switch option to transfer the data. It worked flawlessly, you only need to know all your notes will be placed within one single folder in the new Remember app and you need to organise them again by hand.

I forgot to add that tasks and memos also will no transfer. BlackBerry link syncs calendar and contacts only. You need to use a 3rd party sync app like companion link to sync tasks and memos. Tasks and memos are now contained in the remember folder.
