I've been considering either a Classic or Passport SE to replace my Q10. Good luck on your decision.

It appears BB10 is going to go away at some point...but not for a little bit. John Chen seems committed to providing updates to BB10 for a while but I can see the writing on the wall in the overall strategy. I would give it three years tops. Blackberry might retain and minimally maintain BB10 on the Classic line for enterprise / government fleets after and push out the PRIV, Passport, Porsche design, ect with Android. I love my Classic...just little issues with apps such as facebook, breaking new notifications on iOS I miss but I wouldn't trade the Classic for anything except possibly the PRIV (played with in store, not a fan of Android but love the specs, apps and hardware). There is just something very special about this Classic...I can't explain it.

I'm waiting to purchase another Classic myself but am hoping to hear about a Classic 2. Or hopefully Chen buckles up and gives us a new Bold.

I own the Classic and I absolutely love it. I also have the Passport in use (as a data only device / mini computer). There is definitely something about the Classic that makes you love it. It has that iconic BlackBerry look and also a perfect blend of form and function in my opinion. It's kind of like if a modern smartphone had a baby with an old Bold device and the Classic is what we got.

I do see BlackBerry moving towards Android, that's where their resources are going and where their new target market is. However, BB10 isn't going to "go away" the same way that even OS7 hasn't "gone away." BlackBerry might stop updating the OS eventually but it's already been quite fledged out and is very stable. It will work as is for years and years.

If you want the Classic, then go for it. However, know what you are getting... It's not the latest and greatest phone out there and it never really tried to be. It's the phone that gets stuff done and doesn't need many gimmicks. It's a no-nonsense work device and a beauty of one at that.

What it won't do however, is make the Priv look any less appealing once it catches your gaze.

I think for all intents and purposes, the Classic is the new Bold, just as the Priv is the new Torch. However, having said that, give us a "Q" sized device with a capacitive keyboard like the Passport and Priv have. Look out!! Make it match the SE Passport. Oh my... that would be Bold!

Why are you worried about BB10 going away? If you like the Classic then get one. People still use BBOS devices without worrying about such things.

I have 2 classic, it's a horse of a phone man. It's almost 2am and I'm at 64% battery and have been up since the am. I love this thing even if BlackBerry stops with phones. They still will run and update software...

I finally came to my senses and came back to BlackBerry after a hiatus with android.
It was with great hesitation that I went to the android platform but, there were some apps needed for work that were not available on my 9930.
Since getting my Classic and following Cobalt's and others instructions I have been able to install all work related android apps on my Classic.
    I could not be happier!
Fantastic PKB, file management, the list goes on and on.
Coming back to Blackberry has made all of my mundane tasks of managing emails, scheduling meetings, etc a whole lot easier.
The icing on the cake is a great battery that gets me through an entire day.

I'd definitely get one today, and BB10 won't simply go away. Many businesses and government entities rely on BlackBerry 10, so BlackBerry can't just throw it away. Will there be more innovative features added to it soon? Probably not, as 10.3.3 is a release that BlackBerry has said will focus on security and maintenance.

The Classic's keyboard isn't going to get worse, and the tool belt won't get anymore useful. It's not like one day your Classic will magically stop working because BlackBerry has an Android phone

I say go ahead and grab one. I wouldn't load it up with too many android apps due to the low specs. But for a modern communication device WITH a send and end buttons: and a trackpad you can't beat it

I would get it. Best Blackberry keyboard ever made. If you don't need the full universe of Apps available on Android (especially the Google one's) then you'll love it. That said, you can side load SNAP or 1Mobile Market app stores and have access to most of what's out there. Do it!

    Go for it.

Best keyboard they have ever made...ever!

The Q10 keyboard hurts my thumbs after using the Classic for a while.

I doubt BlackBerry 10 will go anytime soon, there's no way android will make it to security sensitive industries at this point.

I'd buy one. In fact I am thinking about picking one up as a second line on Verizon and then buying a new Android phone as well on VZW for the apps and the Google services.

As opposed to spending $700 + on the Priv (ouch) and keeping my Passport on TMO to keep using BB10.

One of the things that was asked to the previous management group before B10 was launched was the support a platform like BBOS would be offered.

At the time everybody thought that BB10 was going to be an excellent success and I remember Jim Balsilie telling the investment community that "BBOS will have a long runway of support and lifeline"

Granted that Blackberry isn't anywhere near the size it was then in 2012 but there are still millions of Blackberry OS and B10 users in the world, especially the highly sensitive government clients which rely on the services.

Someone can correct me if I am wrong as well, with BES 12 servers it's my understanding that enterprise and government clients can use only 1 server to manage fleets of BB 5, 6, 7, BB10, iPhone and Android, Windows etc?

If this is the case than outside of getting replacement parts the only thing Blackberry would need to do is provide security patches.

Long story short for the foreseeable future I can see someone getting some good long use of a Classic but I doubt the app support will stay where it is.

    Best of luck
