My Classic unexpectedly died. There was some water exposure, but the AT&T guy looked and didn't see whatever there was to see to show water damage. The thing just wouldn't charge anymore. Got a new one, but I didn't have a memory card, so the photos I had on the phone are locked inside the dead device. Any ideas or places recommended to get these photos retrieved?

Other than the NSA... not really. Data on the phone is encrypted and the only key is in the operating system

Now a repair shop might be about to fix it enough for it to boot to remove the data, or even use the phone. But that is a long shot....

What is the NSA? I'll try a repair shop, but I usually get laughed at with my BB. Is there a resource guide to find BB-educated repair shops?

Are you in the GTA by any chance? I know a good shop that specializes in Blackberry repairs.

This is why using BlackBerry Link for backups is a good idea.

You can try opening up the phone, disconnecting the flex cable and see if the connector needs a bit of cleaning, drying. I've seen a few having trouble with charging due to loose connection.
It's not that difficult with the Classic.

Did you by any chance have an SD card in the phone where you had photos go? It is always safest to use an external card for camera and photo storage

EDIT: sorry did not see that you did not have an SD card

    Short answer, no
If they are on the SD card you might be able to IF the SD card isn't encrypted (which isn't a good idea)

If the device didn't have encryption activated, maybe a shop can do it, but not if the phone won't boot up

Sorry Dude, that's what backups and Link are for.

Data encrypted only if you choose it to be in Security and Privacy, Encryption settings.
