Hello there. I recently got my now-beloved Classic, but there is one issue that irks me: the quality of the pictures it takes of my projection screen.

I know it sounds like a silly thing to do, but I find myself quite frequently taking pictures of movies, series or sports stuff on my 108" projection screen. That was not a problem with my Bold 9900, but with my Classic I just can't get it right. I may not have tried everything (hence this thread ), but I have tried quite a few things, and it never really gets good.

I've included two pictures below, with the above obviously having been taken in the ol' 9900 days, and the below being the best I could get with my Classic. The motives are quite different, but the two pictures are indicative of the problems I'm having with my Classic.





You can see the "glow" on Aria that removes detail. This was the best I could do by having the camera focus, I believe, to the left of her face, but still isn't what I would call acceptable.

Try moving the box to a darker place on the screen.

Tap the screen in various places to change the exposure values that the software is using. Alternatively, there's "pro" camera software on BBW (can't recall the title off hand) that gives you full manual control of the camera, so you can change the ISO, exposure, etc, yourself.

There is a manual control camera app called Camera++ available on BlackBerry World, unfortunatly it doesn't support the Classic yet.

Besides the suggestions already mentioned, you might also want to play around with the pre-set scene modes, especially "snow and beach" and "night".

Glad to see this isn't only me. All of the pics I take on my classic "glow" and makes the photo look crappy

Try locking focus by holding down on the focus then snap later with focus locked.

The camera on the classic is awful okay maybe not awful but it definitely has a lot to be desired this is the only crux when switching devices for me if the camera were a lot better to be a slamdunk I would never pick up any of my other phones again

One thing I like about the camera on the Classic is the ability to shoot landscape orientation while holding the phone in a normal way.
The image quality meets my expectations for a camera on a phone.

Lens needs to be cleans with a microfiber cloth. Those slightly bending horizontal lines are indicators of something on the lens refracting the light. (grease, etc) It may also be causing some of the hot spot glow.

You're not comparing the same image so it's not a fair test. Any cartoon is easy to show (that's why you seen them on TV demos in stores all the time) because they have perfectly saturated palettes and no hard to produce skins tones, or any dramatic lighting of real life.

Even with offsetting the focus, the 2nd image is a torture test for any cheap camera. If this were an normal, evenly lit image it would probably be fine. If you were having better luck on the 9900, it may have simply been that it was underexposing slightly overall....or had less contrast in final image procesesing....and thus you were less likely to have hot spots.

You're not comparing the same image so it's not a fair test.

The pics are representative of the difference between taking photos with the 9900 and the Classic. One phone was rather good at it while it just doesn't work on the other.

I also wrote this in the post you quoted. And it's not a cartoon.

The only time you can take decent pictures on the Classic is when: 1) enough natural light 2) HDR on 3) no shots of anything moving. If 1 of 3 of these criteria is not met then you'll won't get any good shots.
