It makes no sense to buy a "new" phone with 2 year-old hardware. It doesn't matter what you're coming from. That's a bad investment.06-29-14 06:58 PMLike 0 - Classic does not need to be high in specs. It should be easy and convenient to use and a long lasting battery for whole day of communication be it calls or messages of any form.

Remember, it's difficult to increase density with higher diagonal size. But BlackBerry has cracked that engineering frontier somehow. Also Chen asserted multiple high-end phones this year.07-02-14 11:57 AMLike 0 - No, I am confident it's going to be super dense with 1440 x 1440 resolution like Passport !

This is why qHD screens todag are usually 5.5in or more. Its very difficult to shrink screen size with these resolutions.
Posted via CrackBerry App07-02-14 09:36 PMLike 0 - There's absolutely no way they're going to squish a 1440x1440 resolution in a 3.5in display. You can't just make displays any resolution you want. They take research and development to create.

- I really don't understand what you're trying to say? Are you agreeing with me?
1440x1440 in a 3.5in display is pretty much impossible at this point in technology. The tech isn't there yet. I'd love it if the Classic had that kind if resolution, but its not going to happen. 1440x1440 would come out to 581.85 PPI. That's literally higher than any mobile device in history.
Not gonna happen.

Except passport, because it powers a 1080p level screen

Just a hunch, but since the Classic will come with 10.3.1 I would imagine the hardware to be closer in specification to the Passport than the original Q10 (which is a year and a half old).
Posted via CB10Jake Storm likes this.07-03-14 02:35 AMLike 1 - Considering that most 3D AAA games don't work well on Q series thanks to the 1:1 ratio, I believe Classic does not need better performance than Q10. Of course, improvements in battery life and more features are always welcome, but I don't think Q series need incredible specs with huge performance

It would be better if it was a removable though as I like saving working BlackBerry's to add to my BlackBerry collection. Hopefully it will have the same ram as the passport but I am still going to try before I order my new daily driver anyways.

LG G3 - 530 PPI
Oppo Find 7 - 540 PPI
Nothing impossible anymore.
1440 x 1440 = 2,073,600 (square) means 2,036 diagonal resolution
1920 x 1080 = 2,073,600 (rectangle) means 2,203 diagonal resolution07-03-14 04:19 AMLike 0 -
The Classic is 3.5in!!! There is absolutely NO WAY the classic is going to be 1440x1440. You think BlackBerry can just create anything they want. Technological limitations exist. A 1440x1440 3.5in would be a revolutionary breakthrough in screen tech.
Posted via CrackBerry App07-03-14 01:18 PMLike 0 - Those phones also happen to have 5in screens or even more. The G3 and Find 7 are 5.5in.

After all, a 3.5" screen with 580 ppi would be of the same density with a 5" screen with 580ppi, the 5" simply will contain more components to cover the extra 1.5" area

While I can see the difficulty in applying 1440x1440 to a 3.5", your responses seem to be emphasizing that the limitation is more on the size of the screen itself instead of the process of putting in the screen pixels.

Example : Sony 4K display gives a vast resolution of 4096 x 2160 that works out to 154 PPI on a 30" diagonal. But another Sony 4K display gives a vast resolution of 3840 x 2160 that works out to just 79 PPI on a 56" diagonal. That's the technology frontier or paradox.
The fact that Chen did not bother to reveal specs of Classic (while demonstrating Passport) is itself a sign. What was assumed previously to be impossible with Classic was accomplished even with Passport !07-04-14 02:55 AMLike 0 - I repeat : the reverse is true. It's easier to package more pixels per inch on a smaller diagonal.

He was talking about ppi, pixel per inch. If you keep the same number of pixel but reduce the surface size, you'll end up with larger ppi.
It's not... as you say it... "easier" to "package more ppi on smaller diagonal". Sony's 30" screen needs vastly higher pixels to average to 580ppi as you request, around 3 to 4 times the pixels, maybe about 16k x 9k resolution. They'd need to use the same size of diodes to work
