Now this has a horrible ring of familiarity to it - it still doesn't seem to have been sorted since OS7!

In an SMS, trying to make two points (a) and (b), I can't type the "(b)" with brackets like that as it "corrects" every time to an (unrecognisable) emoticon. Unlike standard auto-corrections, it appears to be impossible to undo this "correction" via backspace.

Any suggestions, either via settings, workarounds or at a push even an app? Being over 40 and at least, I like to think, semi-literate, I have no use for emoticons...

Hi and thanks for the suggestion, but, no, that doesn't work with these ghastly emoticons - have tried repeatedly with my "(b)" example.

Your unrecognizable emoticon is a "beer" glas... that's why it changes on (b) happens in my sms app, too!

Ah, thanks, Anischab - yes, I think you're right. Personally I don't drink my beer from such vessels...

And yes, Alberta Blue, I think I will indeed need to do that. Or perhaps nobody has yet thought of an emotion that can be annoyingly symbolised by misappropriating "(ii)"!!

Cheers (but not in the beer sense!)
