Received my verizon classic today, which had the sim card pre-installed. upon turning it on for the first time, i get to the "sim activation in progress" screen, and it just hangs. Ive let it run for about 15-20 minutes. I'm coming from a 9930 bold. Anyone else have this issue, or know a fix for it?

You're the third person I've heard of that has had activation issues. I didn't use the pre-installed sim, I swapped my existing nano sim in and had no problems. It's a little concerning though.

I had the same problem this evening.

I removes and reinstalled the sim, then a couple reboots and it was all good

Another thing that I think was an issue for me wass very weak cell signal in the house.

BTW. I LOVE my classic so far.

Reboot, and also make sure your Classic is the one showing on the VZ website

I got mine yesterday (LOVE IT) and had to call Verizon to get it activated. I wasted more time waiting for it to activate by itself than I did on hold. Did I mention I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!

I also used a nano SIM from an iPhone and had no issues.

Verizon probably had the SIM activations set for March 5th. I have had SIM activations issues before when a phone or SIM card had been delivered a day early.

When I called to activate the Verizon rep told me I couldn't have one as they weren't available until this Thursday...

She activated my phone, she was just surprised I had one already since they weren't in the stores yet and they showed back ordered at one point.

Thank you for this post. I had a nightmare doing the same thing. I rebooted almost 20 times. Nothing. Went to Verizon store. They couldn't get it done either. Will try again when I get back from biz trip

I got mine to go finally. I called the VZW number for activating a 4g lte sim card....waited a few, then rebooted. Worked for me. Thanks for the suggestions

I also had the same issue. One phone call and Ta Da! Not sure why it wouldn't just unlock or whatever, but the VZ guy had no problems!

I had the same issue, my new sim in the Classic would not connect until I called in and the rep did something on the back end even though my Q was fully powered down.

I did not try pulling the sims from either phone but they were able to fix in about a 10 minute call.

Seems like it is a bbry to bbry switch with the same number different sim cards.

It's actually the SIM card being the issue - same thing going from the micro SIM in the Q10 to nano sim in Classic but it was way worse when I went from my 9900 to the Q10 sim - they wasted 5 SIM cards before realizing some ***** screwed up something in my account.

For those who have theirs activated, do you have functional visual voicemail?

Yes- it is working on the classic. Also- I think the activation issue is the fact they shipped early- Mar 5 is the start date- - I doubt there will be any more problems liked this after the official launch-- I had it resolved in minutes with the usual GREAT tech support Verizon provides-

Thanks. Do you know how to check what version of the VVM bar it's using? via Sachesi, Chrome, or Darcy's tools?

    You're likely looking for a file called sys.data.ecid538.vvm .

I'm using the version shipped with the Phone (1418?) and then the version I loaded with 2267 via sachesi:

    voicemailcompose-10.3.1.173-nto+armle-v7+signed.bar
    voicemailsetup-10.3.1.270-nto+armle-v7+signed.bar

There is no sys.data.ecid538.vvm in the 2267 file folder- BUT- its working and even download messages I saved on Verizon from last October!

    Good luck

thanks. there hasn't been a version of 10.3.1 tried yet (prior to Classic release) with functional VVM. To get it working we've (the general VZ community using Z10/30 and Q10 devices trying 10.3+) had to restore settings going back to functional 10.2 and add the ecid538 file. Very promising that the Classic has it functional out of the box, that means VZ has to have solved the problem.

Did anyone's vzw tech that fixed this for you happen to say what it was they did? the vzw rep I'm chatting with right now is unsure how to fix.

So you can try this. It worked for me. Run a security wipe of the phone. This might take 20 mins or so. Turn the phone off. Put in the sim with the phone off. Start the activation process of the sim. Turn the phone on. Let it sit at the activation screen until it activates (don't hit the skip button)

That finally worked for me. Granted we used a new sim too but we don't think it was the sim alone. It was the sim to phone combo. Not sure if you are near a store.

I don't know what the rep did, but she had me power off, remove sim, power on, wait a minute, power off, insert sim, power on. activated in about a minute after reboot. She said it's a specific bug with this specific phone and if it's a brand new sim. If I had an existing sim from another device and popped it in it would work just fine. Oh well, it's fixed.
