It's a risk not doing it

I've already installed it, but it took weeks for them to issue a fix. And nobody could download it at first because they kept getting some weird network error so they had to issue a fix for that!
And why couldn't they just push a proper OTA patch, anyway? How many BB10 users out there are not even aware they have a faulty Android Runtime that needs to be patched?
It's just sad how things have come to this.
Do this, 3 out of 4 of my bb10's have been used, all going strong and all half the price of new. Just test the keyboard properly.

Why are you waiting on a contract to end? The Classic is like $299 on Amazon.......Unlocked....
J Be....Here But Gone...
This occurs with Android and iOS as well, anytime there is an update.

Apple pushes iOS updates to all supported devices. It doesn't make them download patches via the App Store.
Yes sir. In my opinion you will be fine. I was able to get a patched google play on my phone even and it has been running apps and everything totally fine.

Honestly, this is my first BlackBerry & it is damn satisfying to type on this keyboard. I have been on this thing damn near nonstop since I got it this Friday & it's nice. I am coming from a One+1 & Nexus 5 before that & since my primary use of ANY phone is Twitter & Tumblr, I find no problem with this. I seriously doubt BlackBerry would be irresponsible enough to release a phone & not support it for at least the two year upgrade cycle so I think you're safe. :)

Got mine 3 months ago and love it. This is the best phone I've ever had N bar none!!

Not if you like BB10 and want to be part of this great time on the greatest OS ever created as it could be the end or beginning however either way, you will be part of it even if it becomes history and I am proud to be in the nix right now, even moreso if it is doomed to become history! Enjoying this Passport SE!..

Not to sound like the odd one out, but I think investing in the platform now comes with a considerable risk.
Here's the honest truth:
You're not going to get any updates, barring security updates which will be rare and result in even your browser being severely deprecated.
As the device and platform grow older and more isolated, there will be less interest and more things will stop working - case in point the Starbucks app as of this week, Google Talk after this month and whatsapp later this year. I used all of these daily at work and to communicate so my bb10 has become a brick.
The cameras are at least a couple years behind the times, if you are concerned with that, as I was between taking pics of my kids and taking captures of whiteboards at work. BlackBerry cameras take too long to focus, are crap in low light and just generally underwhelming.
Will you be secure? Sure. About as secure as someone being able to hack my Olympus typewriter.
I would strongly consider going to another platform.. . Get an android and install Cobalts Priv apps on it, or if you really do go for the classic, then buy it outright as you won't get 2 years out of it. if you are truly wedded BlackBerry and a keyboard, get a Priv, but bb10 is dead.

Well, I returned to a Classic just this week.......from a Priv and a Note 4.
However, I will not suggest that anyone else should go this route. I've 'returned' to a dead platform in the Nokia N9 (the only commercial Meego phone) in the past, and I did it with my eyes open - knowing that the platform was dead and that apps and support would slowly erode. That is exactly what happened.
The BB10 phones will probably have a longer life than the N9 (it was declared dead before it was released), but exactly the same thing will happen to them. We have already seen Facebook and WhatsApp pull support, and that will just continue. As long as we're able to run Android apps on the runtime, things will not be all bad, but that could change quickly too.
I love BB10, and I love the Passport and Classic. When I first got the Priv, I got rid of my Passport and Classic because they were eating into my commitment to the Priv. However, I missed them so much that I re-acquired them.
And I still will not recommend them to anyone else. If you're like me and you walk into this knowing what to expect, you may be happy, but that's something only you can decide. Most people will not be best served with a BB10 phone.
I agree but I'd recommend them to anyone and everyone because I will do anything no matter how small to try to save the platform and it's also because we'll, the Passport is the greatest device every created IMO even in 2016!
If a passport se 2 came out tomorrow with even higher specs. I would buy it if it cane with a slip saying platform dead!.. LOL
I love that hexacore snapdragon, is that the 805? Like the idea of it as always thought the eight was overkill however if it is the 805 heard it has heating issues so this snapdragon 801 is NICE.......

Bought a blue classic today. Also a passport se.
I don't use fb. I don't use whatsapp I don't use snapchat. I don't care about apps. I use phone to text email and read news.
Great phone and great kb. Can't go wrong. These are awesome unless you are someone hooked on the social app bs. I'm antisocial and my personality test said a bit psychopathic (which incidentally would make me a great CEO and bb10 works great for ceos). I lost my train of thought.
I don't care.

You have a lot of time 'til then and there are speculations for another blackberry device (albeit android-powered). Personally, BB10 is a great device and I love using it over my iphone 6+. Updates or not I'm glad I joined the party while I can. It may be a smarter choice to buy one away from carriers' retail price. And people are also saying that BlackBerry will support it for at least couple more years due to corporate devices.

You will have just two months before WhatsApp disconnection and end it support for BlackBerry smartphones and i see that the WhatsApp the messenger in this device you will miss WhatsApp and Facebook if you can go without them do go for it
Posted via CB10
It's not set it stone when they will stop working dude. That is end of support for those apps in which will prob still function for a few years like others have in the past and there is always the android app to install or browser edition. Tired saying this.
The truth is nobody knows not even me but from the past what I said is prob how it will go down... slowly, not abruptly.

Except those other programs not made for XP anymore like my Income Tax program.

Never been happier getting back to the BlackBerry Classic does everything I want and plenty of apps, this phone will be about for years and it's one of the best built phones around - no regrets

Thanks all for the advice, im still determined to get a classic but will wait until my contract is due for renewal. Having four other phone users in the house i cant just buy one out right of amazon as i advised the others to wait until their contracts ended before renewing:) . So i will keep watching the forum and see what happens .
Ditto. I would not recommend a BB10 device to anyone seeking major app support. I love my Classic and Passport. Like you, I walked into it "eyes wide open". I've not felt any frustrations with my devices, nor did I feel they were inadequate to handle the things I needed them to do. It was my choice and I really never cared if I fit in with the status quo.
I really can't stress this enough. I have never, ever liked the iphone. My wife has used a 3gs, 4s and currently has a 6. So I've been around them for many years. Android/Google, I have no issues with and I use them at home in a media setting (google play movies and music). The Priv was not an option for me because it did not measure up hardware wise in my opinion. My Classic just feels right every time I take hold and start using it. My Passport is my sit back and chill device. I love the form factor and the clarity of the wide screen makes my eyes very happy. The quality of these two devices just bleed Blackberry through and through.
If indeed we only have two years with BB10, then so be it. Nothing lasts forever and I'm just going to enjoy my "Sons of Plunder" for as long as I can.
Cheers.
As for Whatsapp, can't people just download it from Google Play Store and run it that way?
I'm running Kakao messenger headless using Cobalt's method, and I'm sure Line messenger is the same. Not sure about Whatsapp.
Posted via CB10
Link to how to run Kakao headless? Not in the hub right?..
I love IMO the quality has became double as good in the last three updates! Works well with the passport se to as do not need to keep it open, etc....
Been begging IMO to pick up the slack and add a bar file for imo as they could gain millions of users, they said they are lookibg into it.
For anybody who dunno, there is yet another whatsapp update coming, you can get in now in blackberry beta zone...

No, not a risk. In fact, a wise decision.

I bought a Q5 this week and I don't regret it one bit... this OS is great and will have at least 2 years left in it... I had the classic and Q10 last year and year before that... left to android but always come back because this OS is just that good
