According to CNET and a few other news sites, John Chen has decided to rename the Q20 to "BlackBerry Classic."

Personally, I prefer this name since I think it sets it apart from the "more modern" lineup due to the different naming scheme. I think it clearly states what the device is and the audience it's intended for. I can see how lumping it in with the Q-Series phones could have caused confusion.

Agree it sounds better as classic, however I do feel it might still carry a name and number ie classic q20 just like bold 9900 etc...

Thanks, I hadn't seen anything about it until today.

And I agree having a model number follow it would be a good idea, like BlackBerry Classic C20 or something. Or maybe even just label it by generation (e.g., BlackBerry Classic 2, BlackBerry Classic 3 and so forth).

Perhaps. On the OS level, it's the Classic anyway.

I like the name change into Classic. I hope they keep it that way. So the Q line could be more distinguishable as the non-toolbelt qwerty line, and the Classic line will be known the toolbelt qwerty line.

Should crackberry rename this forum to Blackberry Classic? I like the name change, but I just hope that the classic comes to us cellular. US Cellular only has one blackberry device left in their line up and that is a BB7 Curve device.

They should have called it "The new, Blackberry BOLD " similar to when Apple released the 3rd gen iPad and called it "the new iPad". Just a thought, thought it would be cool

Don't know if anybody else caught in the last paragraph, that the newest enhancements in BB10 will be released with the Q20. Are we to expect that this is when 10.3 will drop?

I hope it's called the classic. Nobody even knows what these numbers are for the new BB10 series. Plus I don't think anyone even understands the sequential order BlackBerry completely failed at creating.

The BlackBerry Classic is catchy and a more attractive name.

I agree that BlackBerry Classic sounds good. It also conveys what the device is designed to be too. Sensible name.

I have a Q10 which is great and looks good but I don't like the Q20 it really looks old.
I really think they should go for increase the screen to max that fits your pocket with minimal buttons (remove the lower row).

Keyboard should keep the same classic layout. And I don't know how you can say the Q20 "really looks old" when there are no official pictures of it out there.

Clever move as Q20 was intended to gain back legacy users that still stick to BB7.
It also allows Blackberry to pursue a more bold innovation on another physical keyboard (3 row without tool-belt) to gain Android and Iphone's users that are looking for a more modern phone but were missing the keyboard (as Typo success and buzz seemed to demonstrate).
So the Classic to convert legacy users and bring them BB7 users round to BB10, and the Q30 to continue innovating and evolving the physical keyboard (trackpad integrated on the keyboard? etc) and perpetuate Blackberry's renown as THE keyboard maker even in today's environment (as hybrid touch/physical keyboard gives a very effective alternative to full touch devices).

I think he is missing the selling point of BBOS7 and that because BBOS7 now is the easiest to use out of any OS. Everything is just black and white with it.

I can only see this phone have a small niche. If they really want this phone to kill it, they need to bring have the option to go to BBOS7 theme then for the active frames have it like PBOS2 or have a PBOS theme. (which is best of both worlds anyways)

    Attachment 264621
    Attachment 264622

    1. Open up the damn theme API!! (imagine themes and icon packs on BB10, i loved themes back on OS5)
    2. make it possible to have a virtual 'Tool Belt" for other build owners which works just as good as the old one
TrackPad Editor - BlackBerry World just add the call, menu and end key.

Chen is doing an amazing job. He does need to look at these little things and integrate them to the OS TODAY!!!

Future is touch screen so he should just repackage the Z30 just like Samsung and HTC did with their flagships (with barely any difference) just to get the name out and make it a little better like camera, battery (3000mah would really pick it up a notch from 2-3 days to steady 3 days :P), better ppi and that's it!

I doubt it will be kept as Classic, as the entire name. More like lineup.. the Q10 is model 10 in the Q line up. The Bold 9900 is the model 9900 in the Bold line up.

If BlackBerry wants to keep releasing Classic phones in the future, you will be seeing a number linked with it for sure.

"Classic" implies "older" or "dated" tech. Touch is the older, dated, tech... Rim's Trackpad revolution is at least several years newer than Apple's touch revolution. At least a year newer than RIM's glass Storm. How about a name that capitalizes on the Bold's success? Bold Q20 seems obvious enough. Super Bold? Business Bold?? Bold Productivity? B20?? Forward leaning names like that are easier sells when submitting purchase requests in an enterprise environment. The "Playbook" is a wonderfully useful device (along with our Bolds, anyway) but try submitting purchase request for 26 of something with "PLAY" in the name... BTDT. Same holds true for back leaning names like "Classic"...
