Have you guys watched the latest post on crackberry home page? Bloomberg interview john chen said it will be out in september/october time frame.
What interest me is what he said about merging the classic style BlackBerries with modern UI and making it work.
I hope there will be an overhaul of the way the phone works with the belt to make it even better than ever.
BlackBerry have already released a preliminary info document for app developers claiming that the new buttons will work with existing UI elements. Though I don't think they have published highly detailed info yet.
The extra buttons kill it for me. BlackBerry needs to go all in with the OS10 design language. I just hope that if blackberry releases a new high end touchscreen phone they don't include the buttons or trackpad.
One doesn't purchase a QWERTY device for a massive touch screen or to consume media/games.
Not a concern for that target market.
Concur. If I want video games or videos to watch, I've got a MacBook Pro for that.
I am interested in discovering if the "belt" will be actual buttons or integrated as part of the touchscreen. From the photos we've seen, looks like it could be either.
I would put up with that if it were only because doing this with every device they make going forward would stop all the old-timers from indulging their obsession with pulling the battery any time they encounter the slightest hiccup in operation.
Funny observation! Yes, BBOS7 ingrained that into its user base, somehow....
iPhone for me? Scr... ahem Q that! (posted from the latter)
Oh okay I see. Yah a 1:1 is a little odd. I feel that 16:9 might be hard to achieve with a physical qwerty keyboard

I mentioned elsewhere that even though 4:3 would introduce yet another aspect ratio, let's consider a lot of games and apps are optimized for iPad and iPad mini, which is exactly that ratio.
16:9 is too tall if you add a keyboard, 1:1 does not give any benefit when watching videos or viewing docs / scrolling on web pages.
Any ideas?

I love my Q10 but I do find the 1:1 ratio rather limiting even for apps never mind games.
Loading android apps on my Q10 gives evidence to this. 2 very important apps in my country does not work very well despite being available as an android port in BlackBerry world. The layout of the app is messed up so much so that it renders those apps almost useless as they were made for at least 4:3 ratio.
Waze app is another example where the layout if affected but it is still usable.
These apps works perfect on Z10 and Z30.
The problem is I think this limits the future viability of the 1:1 ratio blackberries because it adds to fragmentation and makes it troublesome for developers.
Which in BlackBerry terms mean Jan 2015 if we're lucky.
BlackBerry better be able to keep up with its competitors by releasing a new flagship keyboard phone every year. I don't buy 2015. It'll be out this summer/fall.

Yeah I think if BlackBerry waits till 2015 the phone will be a bust. It needs to be released in a "timely" manner so it's actually competitive with the technology in current market phones
So I decided to look into this possibility and it is very doable in my opinion. I have a Q5 which has a screen width of 2.25". The 4:3 ratio would require the length of the screen to be 3" to maintain the same current screen width. Looking at my Q5 an additional 0.75" in length is all it would take accommodate this 3" x 2.25" screen.

I forgot to mention that the screen will become 3.75" on the diagonal.
My point is that the screen ratio of the phone will not be 4:3. It'll be 1:1 like the Q10. Unless your point is that you'd like to see a 4:3 screen on it?
