Hi, I just got a Classic for my wife - now, I wonder, is it possible to assign different functions or shortcuts to the navigation keys?
She would love to have the menu button open the hub - so far all I found was that the menu button opens the menus - which seems kinda silly because who uses a menu that often.
I couldn�t find anything on it and I assume it is not possible....

Go to Settings > Shortcuts and Speed Dial. Or hold down a letter (except 1/W) and it will as if you want to assign. One of the best functions of the PKB.

Cheers, I already knew this, but that was not what I asked. I asked specifically on the navigation buttons - are those assignable or hardcoded?

If you're talking about the back, home buttons, no those can't be reassigned.

Exactly, those. Those buttons sure have a useful function - but no idea why there is a "menu" button - that seems to be useless. Would have loved a "hub" button instead - but well, another thing bb misses - customizability

I use the menu button a lot when I'm using the browser. Especially with browsie browser.

I see - so far I used it 2 times, once to test, and once to test again. In 3 days - doesn�t seem to be a lot, but hey. I just wish that they at least offer the option to change it - I mean - that thing sure isn�t soldered to those functions. A simple software tweak would suffice.
Well, lets hope Android will come along.
But thank you for your answer, it sure helped.
