No chipping on my own Classic, but the demo unit at the Verizon store has a track pad key with the corner gone/chipped.

I don't think that's "chipping" it's the light coming through on the spacebar. ...all devices will look like that at that angle.

You sure it's not just the protective film that comes with the phone? It has a little corner mark so you know to remove it...

Mine also has that chipped/Not covered paint on my spacebar. This is also my second classic and my first one also had the same issue. Same as it's the only flaw in an otherwise beautiful device.

Those are definitely paint chips causing unnecessary light bleed. Unacceptable really...

I've had the classic for over a month now, and I can see the toolbelt has a really tiny gap just above the  logo. I'm sure that wasn't there. I guess that's how the classic is going to wear out eventually with paint chipping from the keypad & toolbelt. Moreover the lower portion of the steel frame is not metal, cos I can see some paint coming off near the corners where it's attached to the upper frame.
I really thought this device will last forever, but now I just hope it looks respectable through 2015.

If I turn off all the lights in my house and put my hand to where I am almost touching the screen, there is a ton of light bleeding.

Damn! And my Classic is 2 weeks old!
